Chapter 28

Cato and Boudicca were stuck staring at each other. Someone had been spying on them. What did they overhear? Was it Brin? Cato thought to himself. It could have been him, simply checking in on Cato and he got shy at seeing Cato with Boudicca.

“There’s only one way to find out!” Skoll urged Cato, spurring him into action.

Cato leapt out of the water, the strength in his legs powered by the fire still burning within him. He chased after the shadowy figure fleeing into the woods.

“The scent Cato, the scent,” Skoll pressed on.

Cato took a deep breath in. He filtered all the familiar scents rushing into him, the frozen soil, the strong fragrance of pinewood, and narrowed in on his target. The scent was both strange and familiar. Cato couldn’t place it. All he knew was that he was closing in on his prey.
