Chapter 35

It was the silence that let Cato know he was dreaming. The calm quiet before he opened his eyes. He’d longed for it. His eyes slowly opened, and he peered up into the full moon. The midnight sky was clear, and the stars twinkled gently. He sat up and found Skoll sitting beside him. Teeth bared; his golden eyes were full of anger.

“What was that!?” Skoll growled. “Are you trying to kill us both?”

“I just did what you said,” Cato argued back, getting to his feet. “You told me to stoke the fire.”

“I told you to control it!” Skoll barked, saliva flying everywhere. “You need to control your rage!”

“Everyone is telling me to do that!” Cato roared back, wisps of smoke circling up from his mouth.
