Octavius Cadmus Cato is a Camp Prefect of the 9th Legion Hispania. Under the command of his father, Atticus Costa, the 9th legion is successfully leading the push for Rome’s conquest of the island of Britannia. While encamped for the winter, Costa assigns Cato to escort Boudicca, a princess of the Iceni tribe, a tribe loyal to Rome, north to negotiate a peace treaty between the Brigantes and the Empire. “There is much to discuss and something I would like to show you,” Costa replied and lead Cato to the headquarters. It was a tent set up at the center of the cavern. “Though you don’t seem to be too concerned with it.”


Cato followed Costa into the headquarters tent. He looked up and sitting at the table was Boudicca. Her green eyes caught his breath in his throat. She smiled widely at him.


“Thank the gods,” She exclaimed rushing towards Cato and wrapping her arms around him. “You’re finally awake.”


“Thank the gods for not wanting anything to do with him,” Costa joked and ordered a servant to bring them some wine. “Now to toast and celebrate your return. The planning can follow later.”


They all sat down at the table and the conversation flowed. Cato watched Boudicca laugh and smile as the time passed. So many memories flooded his mind. He thought back to the last time the three of them sat at this table. Boudicca’s gaze caught his.
