Those vibrant blue eyes stared at me with the gentlest smile on her face. How could she be so calm when someone did this to her house? This may have been normal and acceptable to her, but not to me. I couldn't let her, or Claire stay here.


"Why the long face? I told you I've been through this before. This is nothing new to me."


Nothing new to her! How could she not see that staying here even for the night was dangerous? The humans couldn't stand our union any more than the wolves could. I couldn't protect her here, but at the manor, I could keep her safe always.


The car filled with the sweet sound of her laughter. Under different circumstances, I would have basked in the joyous sound, but this was no laughing matter. Her safety wasn't a source of comedy to me.
