Chapter 39: Midnight Snacks

Allie’s sad two-story sits beside me as I watch the last of the twilight fade from downtown. I glance back at the multitude of snacks in the backseat and sigh. Might’ve overdone it for just two people. The blue sports car Zelia lent us is a bit snug. Nothing like my spacious beauties laying dormant in my apartment garage. I step out into the humidity and stretch out as I wait for Allie to come downstairs. It’s been a while since I’ve gotten away from the city. Might be good to take a few days off. Even if I have to constantly remind myself to be on my best behavior. I lean back on the car and take in the silence. This was going to be a good weekend. I open my eyes at the sound of the door squeaking open. Allie walks out dressed in sweats and a t-shirt, her bag slung over her arm.

“Someone looks ready to relax,” she smirks as I open the passenger door for her.
