The smell of food swirls around me as Allie bites into a slice of pizza and sinks further into the mound of pillows she’s put together behind us. The white robe makes her look like a child. So small and full of wonder it melts my heart. I glance back at the TV and continue to flip through the primetime cable options. I swear the only thing keeping cable companies in business are resorts and old people.
Allie sits up abruptly. “Wait, go back.”
I flip back a channel to a man and woman on a beach, the woman ridiculously flapping her arms around. This has got rom-com written all over it. I pluck a shrimp from the spread and look over at Allie. “You know this movie?”
“You don’t?” she balks, mid-bite. “This is only the best movie on the planet.”
“Oh really.” I look back at the screen. “So, it’s a rom-com?”
The slice of pizza dangles out of her mouth as she shoves me with a smile. “It’s not just a rom-com. It’s a love story.”
