Chapter 49: Rebirth

Tommy opened his eyes. Rather, he thought he opened his eyes. What he was seeing was beyond anything he’d seen before. The varying shades of color in the bed canopy were impossible. He could see more than colors, though, he could see the thread fibers, and based on their degradation, he could guess at how old the fabric was.

He didn’t know how he knew, but he was fully aware that the sun was down. He couldn’t see her, but he was also aware of Emilia standing outside the bed canopy.

Tommy pulled the curtain back. Emilia stood there, still as stone… but not perfectly still. He could see her energies. Now, he understood what she had meant when she told him he could see energy lines.

It took him a moment to realize that there was no steady thumping in his chest, no active pulse in his veins. Sounds and movements in his body that he had never been aware he had but was fully aware that he was without.
