Chapter 28

"If Killian is coming to take your father's head that means the throne will not belong to you in the end. Killian will be a harder target for you to go up against. If he plans to take over our castle and become king of two kingdoms, what will you do then?" Margaret asked since there was a chance it could happen.

Killian didn't come unto their land to kill a few men and return to his own kingdom. He was here to prove a point to the Blackwell kingdom and all the others who knew of him. He was not a mere man to be messed with and soon enough, Richard Blackwell will learn it.

"Well, that is another scenario. If that were to ever happen, I would try any means needed to keep a Blackwell on the throne. It's likely he is coming to take the throne away from my father and have it for himself or to put someone else on it. Hopefully me but I wouldn't want us to end up in that predicament."

"I fear we have no control over that. He is so close to our castle that he could take it any minute now," Margaret looked around the castle, dissatisfied with the number of guards stationed to protect those on the inside of the castle grounds. "Your father's weakness will be his ego."

"He thinks no one can get through our castle walls because it has never happened but he fails to realize there were great kings who made that possible. Killian should have never been able to get into the kingdom from the border. This is all going to come crumbling down soon," Amelia felt a fluttering feeling in her stomach.

Something about this feud and the future of the Blackwell kingdom did not feel well.

"Are you sure you wish to remain outside the castle walls at a time like this? Anyone could easily point out where the king's mother lives." Amelia disliked Margaret living outside of the castle even more now.

"I am fine dear. If I am meant to die, so be it. Whether he finds me in my home or the castle does not matter. If I am meant to die I would rather it be in my home than in this castle. That's one of the two promises I made to myself," said Margaret.

"I wish you wouldn't speak of death as if it is nothing, grandmother-"

"But it is nothing, child. Death is nothing for me. I have lived a long life so dying is the least of my worries. The only thing keeping me from moving on is making sure you will be fine. So hurry up and find your own happiness," Margaret patted Amelia's hand.

"Grandmother!" Amelia whined. "How can you stand here and say such a thing? Have you never thought of how your death would mean something to the people who love you? What am I to do without you? I don't care how long you have lived. You must stay with me and die naturally instead of taking your own life."

Margaret chuckled as Amelia's whining reminded her of when Amelia was a young child. "That is something you cannot control. I will do as I please and it is your job to find someone else to fill that void. I wish to move on and go into my next life. I wish that it has nothing to do with a castle."

"Do not cry dear," Margaret ran her thumb under Amelia's eyes to wipe away her tears. "I have hated a lot of things about my life and thought of trying to do things I love but this old girl's knees are starting to fail earlier than expected."

"Grandmother, there are plenty of inventions to help you get around to do what you love. Throw away the negatives and focus on the positives. Tell me what you wish to do and I will help you-"

"Are you always going to be with me? Are you going to give up being queen to be by my side? I would never burden you with such tasks. You do not have to worry about me dying anytime soon. I want you to find your happiness first," said Margaret.

Amelia figured her grandmother must be lonely living all alone in her home with her servants. Margaret didn't like the majority of her relatives who only hovered around her because of her status and the ones she liked lived too far away. "How about a puppy or a love interest?"

"I don't have time for pets," Margaret smugly replied, referring to both options. "Having a man around me is what put me in this position in the first place."

"I didn't say it had to be a man, grandmother," Amelia said in a hushed tone so no one would hear her suggesting Margaret Blackwell should get with a woman.

"You devious child," Margaret playfully smacked Amelia's arm. "It would certainly make my life interesting. Your father having a fit if he were to ever find out would be wonderful. I hope my ex-husband will turn in his grave. You know I thought about paying someone to shake your grandfather's grave?"

"Honestly, I am not surprised to hear this." Amelia was no longer going to be lost for words at the things her grandmother did as payback.

"I'll be damned if I let him sleep peacefully even when he is dead. I will make any deal with the devil if I can be the one to torture your grandfather."

"What makes you so sure you will be going to hell? You are a wonderful woman outside of trying to strangle your husband in his sleep," Amelia cringed at the thought of it.

"I've done way worse than I will ever tell you. A good majority of us in the castle will be seeing each other in hell. Castles are like a playground for the devil with the amount of greed, sin, secret affairs, death, and more that goes on here."
