The Maid

Norma Wilhelmina walked over. "Her name is Kantil. She is Hendrik's maid from Indonesia."

The woman smiled sarcastically at me.

"Wasn't I right, Edward?" asked Norma, looking at Edward.

"What for she still in here? It's a hassle," said the old woman who I assumed was Hendrik's mother.

"Edward, take her home. Hendrik's are here now. We don't need strangers," said Norma.

The woman looked at me triumphantly. Inevitably, Norma's words pierced the heart. She called me stranger. I wasn't part of Hendrik's family. She emphasized that I was not needed.

"Ah, i . . . yes, Ma'am," Edward stammered.

I looked at Edward. I want to stay right here waiting for Hendrik. I hope this man understands with the look in my eyes.

"I'm sorry, not meaning I disobey you, Ma"am.. However, Mr. Hendrik really needs Kantil presence. If Mr. Hendrik needs this and that he will definitely look for Kantil," said Edward haltingly.
