Peace Don't Go

We have been living in this country for more than two months. Hendrik's condition is better now. Even though yet normal, slowly he can walk again with the help of stick. My favorite man was able to go to the office again.

Now, I have to be more careful because pregnancy is getting bigger. Thankfully, Hendrik hired a maid so that I wasn't alone when he left for the office. The woman was about forty years old. Brown skinned and fat body. Later I found out she was of Javanese descent and could speak Javanese. Her name is unique, Rebecca Kasdipowidjoyo. The combination of western names with Javanese names like the people back then.

Once I asked why her name is like that. Rebecca's answer was surprising. The last name was her grandfather's name. Almost all Javanese descendants in Suriname use their ancestral names as last names, a kind of clan so that their identity as Javanese is not lost.
