Chapter 62

Sam came back to the country early in the morning as he promised his wife. Mrs. Edna couldn't just control her emotions. She started whimpering. She made Sam know how disappointed she was. So Sam kept pleading for an apology. He admitted that He was wrong. But that wasn't just all Edna needed. She wants her daughter back to her in good health and also wants her family to start leaving their normal life without the fear of the unknown. Sam had to promise her that he would fix whatever went wrong. He implored her to stay by his side as he continue to face whatever may be the consequences. Edna who already busted into tears couldn't make any choice as of then. She kept imagining the shame her family might face if they lose the case. How they could face the judgment kept disturbing her. She continued recalling how she warned her husband not to engage in any dirty business.

While knowing full well that it won't be easy for him to face the wrath of the law alone, officer Sam first hired an attorney and narrated everything that happened to him. The attorney who already know that Sam was guilty started counting Sam's faults him. He even told him the penalty that the law has already designed for such an offense. Finally, he made it clear to him that they won't go and challenge the court's judgment. Instead, he'll plead on his behalf so that they would choose a lesser penalty for him. Sam couldn't believe that he would settle for the least. He started suggesting means to boycott the court process. But Kareem, the attorney couldn't just agree with his flimsy ideas. At one point, Sam noticed that he could only tell Kareem the truth and leave him to do his work. His choice was the only option since Sam couldn't help himself at the moment. Already he knew there are many pieces of evidence to use against him in the law court. He had to adhere to whatever the lawyer may say.

Sam and his lawyer, Kareem went to the police to honor the police invitation. Kareem didn't dress in his office regalia since that wasn't a court proceeding. Since the police were already looking for Sam, once he drove into the entrance gate, the person in the security room saw him via the CCTV camera and notified the officers on duty. At the entrance door to the main building, Sam and Kareem were surrounded by police officers. Sam threw his briefcase to the floor, some feet away from himself and they raised their hands in surrender to the police authority. Police officers searched them and made sure they had no sophisticated weapons within them. Sam was handcuffed while Kareem presented his ID card and was freed.

Sam was lucky, the police commissioner was in the office then. He first told sam to hand over to him all he has that belongs to the police authority. He did just as directed. He was taken to a mini hall where the investigative department questioned him iteratively to make sure they were doing their work as the law demands. Jimmy, who was in a way celebrating victory couldn't allow just allow Sam to rest. He kept bombarding Sam with different questions.

As Sam kept intertwining words, the commissioner of Police commanded that he should be reprimanded

"Officers of law!" Kareem said as he brought out his Identity Card. Then he continued.

"In other to avoid abuse of power. and process, I suggest you submit your writ of summoning to court to start with the proper judgment and implementation of the law. Though my client has not been convicted of any crime, I'm not soliciting. absolute discharge. Rather I'm just reminding us to be careful so we may avoid contributory negligence. Meanwhile, I give you my affirmation that he'll honor your invitation whenever you call for such."

"Mister man? you have an office, and so do I. You don't teach me how to do my work in my office. So despite all the charges against Sam, which he's yet to debunk, you still found him not guilty to face any penalty from the higher order? This is not your chamber and I suggest you keep your proficiency to yourself until you're been summoned by the right authority". commissioner countered Kareem

"Well, I leave you with your actions but remember the repercussions"

Kareem said as he started walking around majestically. As he heard no one replying to him with the spirit of someone ready for trouble, he continued

"Since you've turned your office to a law court, may u. have the charge sheet so we may continue with the legal proceedings?

"That's not my obligation, but since you want justice to be served without mercy, the law must take its. right course with full force. But I promise you, it. must not end as rosy as you think.". The commissioner replied anxiously
