Chapter 76

The following morning, I couldn't wake up on time due to what happened the previous day. When I opened my eyes, there were already rays of light entering the room through the glass window. As I got up from the bed, I stretched myself, they continued yawning while I was headed to the bathroom.

When I entered the kitchen, Aunty Sandra was already washing dishes as she was also preparing breakfast for the family.

"Aunty good morning ma" I greeted her while still standing by the door. She paused everything she was doing and walked closer to me and hugged me.

"My daughter," she said

"Good morning. Thank you for what you did yesterday. I couldn't hold my tears then, and I knew if I would continue with that conversation, I don't know how it might end. Thank you so much. You've shown us that some people are more human than others, and that's just the best. You've made me and everyone around you proud. God will bless you"

"That's fine. Just that it wasn't a way for me. We'll have to talk to Zick before we get into the court" I said.

"That's not a problem, do you think uncle Jimmy won't narrate everything that happened yesterday to him? If not yet, I know he will discuss it with him before the day runs out." Aunty Sandra said.

"That's fine" I concluded.

They went and brightened out a can of water from the fridge. I opened it and poured some into a glass cup. As I was drinking the water, I recalled the gifts I bought for Aunty Sandra. When I got to the room to bring it out, I remembered I left it at Dave's house.

"Oh! Why do I make such a mistake?" Did I question myself?

I then phoned Dave and told him to help me and bring them to the house since I couldn't leave the house that early. He obliged, then I wet and helped Aunty Sandra in the kitchen. I was still wearing my night wears when Dave called and informed me that he was already in our compound. I terminated everything I was doing and went out to meet with Dave. He got out of the car and gave me a wonderful hug, then pecked me on the chin. After the pleasantries, He opened the door and brought out the bag where we kept those items.

"Jessy, who is that?" I looked at the house entrance door since I overheard the question only to see Aunty Sandra who has been standing there since "God knows when"

Then I whispered to Dave.

"That's my aunt. Get yourself ready, we're going to greet her now"

Dave then draw his shirt and dressed his cloth more. I trust Dave, he always dresses well, and he never failed to wear nice perfume whenever he's leaving his house. We walked closer to her and I made a brief introduction.

"Aunty Sandra, meet Dave, my friend. Dave meet Aunty Sandra, my mum"

"Good morning Aunty Sandra" Dave greeted

"Wow! Good morning Dave, please come inside" She led the way as she opened the door.

"Dave, you're welcome to our house once again!" Aunty Sandra said, "Thank you ma" He replied.

"Jessy, offer him something please"

She said

Ha! This Aunty Sandra's sudden change of behavior was strange to me. I obeyed her, then went into the kitchen and poured some chin on a plate for him and joined it with beverages.

Then as I dropped those items on the table, I said…

"Dave, this is what we have for you"

"Thank you very much, Jessy. I guess I've never met this your aunty?" Dave asked.

"Yeah! She's the one who trained me after my parent's demise." I replied to him.

"Wow! She must be kind. Madam Sandra, God will reward you for your kind gestures!" He said compassionately with many demonstrations of appreciation.

"It's well dear. Dave, as you people are this close to each other, I would like to know you more. Who are you to Jessy?"

Aunty Sandra rightly pulled the trigger, and it got to the targeted spot.

The house got hushed immediately. It seemed as if Dave ran out of words.

"Kuh!" I cleared my throat and then continued.

"Aunty Sandra, he's my boyfriend. The one I've been telling you about. Though I'm not doing the introduction as I'm supposed."

"That sounds great. So, you're the one who only stole my daughter's heart?" Aunty Sandra made her question to Dave jokingly.

Dave was just like some person swimming in a strange river. He knew not whether aunty Sandra was about to support him or she was looking for a way to say one uncongenial word or the other.

"Hmm, ma, she's the one who stole mine" He master at making his statement

"Hahaha. Just imagine. My dear, what do you do for a living?"

"Ma, I'm a judo coach and I have my training ground where I train people" He replied

"That's strange. What's judo?"

Sandra asked.

"Well, judo is a form of martial art. Though I'm a graduate"

"I see," Sandra said as the amusement on her face disappeared gradually. Sandra is my aunt and I know if I gain her interest, others will follow suit.

I then feigned a smile and jokingly added to their conversation.

"That's his side hustle, by the way. His secrecy is too much. He's an SSS officer. That's a member of the State Security Service of Nigeria."

He stylishly gave me a look that made me pause.

"And you're this humble agreeing to answer a tout while binding your profession" Aunty Sandra screamed

"We do hide our profession for security purposes. That's why. But this is just like my home. Your daughter makes me comfortable whenever we're together." He added.

The conversation continued for some more minutes.
