HER NEW PILLAR OF SUPPORT

Princess Jessica returned to her room and decided to rest. Her father had just dead, and she knew if she did not rest, the coming days would be too much for her. Although her father has pointed a part for her, it was still difficult for her to accept his death.

"Your highness, General Ramsey has been waiting for you," her maid whispered when she got to the room.

Princess Jessica sighed, her father had just died, and she did not have the heart to meet Ramsey, knowing that her father disapproved of their relationship. "Tell him to return," Princess Jessica instructed the maid. When the maid heard this, she was shocked, after all, she knew how much the princess loved Ramsey.

"Your highness, the General... The maid wanted to persuade her, but princess Jessica was in no mood to listen. She gestured with her hand for the maid to withdraw.

The maid swallowed the words at the tip of her tongue and ran out of the room. She had not seen Princess Jessica putting on such a stern look. She would lose her tongue if she continued speaking or standing there. The princess has been nice to her since she was the only one among the princess's personal maids that passed messages from Ramsey to the princess.

Jessica felt bad ignoring Ramsey, but she had no other choice. After reading what her father left for her, she knew he had created a part of success, but her heart already belonged to Ramsey. Even if she knew she would disobey her father in the end, she still had to honour him for some time.

This was why she sent the maid away, afaird that she would fail even to respect her father for a single day.

....

"Is she coming?" Ramsey asked the moment the maid walked over. In the last few months, she has been the one passing message from the princess to Ramsey.

"No, the princess is in a bad mood," the maid bit her lips.

"Did you tell her I was the one who wanted to see her?" Ramsey panicked. Although the king's men did not say anything, he knew they blamed him for his death. The king was alert and could have dodged the stab, but he had chosen to play the hero and the king refused to owe him.

This led to the king's death. If the princess also blamed him, his plans for years would become nothing. He knew for a fact that the princess valued the king so much.

"I told her, but she asked you to return," the maid shook her head. "Her highness seems to be in a bad mood, I wanted to put in good words for you, but she forbids me from saying anything else," the maid explained.

Ramsey sighed, "Get me paper and ink," He instructed the maid. This maid was princess Jessica's personal maid; a few months ago, she had become a spy, Ramsey place by the princess.

"Then go wait in the garden; it would not be good if someone were to see you," the maid said before she turned around and left.

Ramsey was on his way to the garden when he saw the lords, Generals and nobles leaving with unhappy faces. He went closer, hoping to hear what had happened at the grand hall. Although he was already a general, his rank was still too low to attend some meetings.

"The princess is not easy to deal with," one lord said.

"What do you expect? King Lorenzo may seem like a pushover, but when have we managed to force his hands? Let me tell you. It is your wishful thinking that the son of General Daiz would be the next king," one general said.

"How is it so? If you lead your men to support him, what right does she have?" the lord did not agree. He looked down on women, and so he had sided with the second household.

"You have grown old. I will die before I think of moving my men. The royal family has spies. Once I am labelled a traitor, would my family survive? Learn this from me, the person who holds the sceptre of authority holds the power. If we dare to disobey it today, we are only digging our own graves. King Lorenzo knew this. If you don't care about your life, what about your family? " The general asked. He shook his head; Ramsey knew what he meant; although the general had trained the men, the royal family had supported it. He became a general with the seal of the royal family, if he dared fight against them, the commoners would turn against them, and the common soldiers would fight with their life to kill him. In the heart of the common soldier, nothing mattered more than the golden sceptre of authority.

" You have become a coward... " the lord was saying, but Ramsey could no longer hear them.

" She dares to act so arrogantly, " Ramsey heard another conversation.

" She is the heir to the throne; you are better watch your mouth; we are still within the Palace. The gentleman caught by the guards earlier has been sent to prison. What do you think would become their fate if they are accused of treason?" another voice said.

Ramsey stood on the spot; he did not know why a few people were suddenly so scared of the princess.

" Did you realise that among the young gentleman men captured, all the sons of those that secretly meet with General Daiz were arrested?" another voice said.

"of course, anyone with eyes can see what the princess is playing at, when the messenger of the princess is disrespected. The princess is also disrespected. This can be seen as a sign of rebellion. Once evidence is brought forward by the royal family, these family will perish, and the people would rejoice," another said.

" I dare not support any side; it is best to remain neutral; least one would not know how they die, " The first lord said.

Ramsey walked away to the garden; he was shocked. After all, he had always felt that the princess was a bit ignorant and given the way her father died suddenly, she might take him as her new pillar of support. This way, he would be able to take over the throne. "How naive" Ramsey shook his head. It seems he had seen the princess acting meek before him; he forgot that she was not easy to deal with.

He had to find a way to marry her as soon as possible, lest she would find out about him. He knew that the princess was a person who was killed without blinking an eye.

"General, I have been waiting for you if her highness seeks me, and I am unable to explain. Losing my job would be a light punishment. The princess is trying to clean her uncle's spies, and if I cannot explain why I was gone for so long, I might not be able to keep my life, " the maid complained. She knew that the princess would not look for her. She was just hoping to show Ramsey how much risk she was taking. Perhaps, he would be more generous to her.

" I will be quick; where are the paper and ink, " Ramsey fell for the maid's words. Given what he heard from the lords and generals, he had no reason to doubt her. he was even scared that if the late king's men saw him, they would be more than willing to kill him and name him a killer.
