Chapter 7- Interruption

Dongmei tried to peek at the groom standing behind the translucent curtain, but she failed to catch a glimpse. She was not the only person who was enlarging her pupil and then narrowing her eyes. Lin Xie was also eager to catch a look at her bride-to-be. Both of them could not see each other.

Dongmei was taking light, and slow steps down the stairs, Lin Xie wanted them to increase their speed. However, Dongmei was in no hurry, nor was her mother.

"Wait patiently; Tonight, she will be all yours." A voice shoved its way into Lin Xie's ears. He gulped down a mouth full of saliva and faintly nodded. He paused and slowly turned his head towards the direction of the voice and saw a man in a pink hoodie and ripped jeans. He was wearing a gold chain bracelet on his right hand, and an Apple watches on his left side.

"Did you drop your brain somewhere?" Lin Xie stared coldly` at the man beside him, dressed casually for a wedding.

"You know I am a person of liberal personality." Lin Xie didn't move his eyes and kept staring at him.

"Okay! I can't handle traditional dress. It looks `like I am a woman."

Lin Xie folded his arm and asked, "You did not remember my wedding day. did you?"

"Okay I accept; you don't have to be obsessed with me." He said in a calm, relaxed tone.

"It's not like you are marrying for the first time anyway." He whispered.

Lin Xie's face turned red with anger; he pinched his back and said, "Do you want me to bring this act of yours to grandfather?"

"Then, I think it won't be your first time hanging upside down in the middle of our garden." He smirked.

"Fan Xian? How come you are not wearing the dress I got for you?" Lin Jingwei asked as he saw the two of them chattering.

"Lin Xie, you are blushing." The old man Jingwei spoke it out loud unknowingly, and everyone heard it. Even Dongmei, who was at the last step of the stairs, heard him say that. She thought to herself, 'Maybe he is not all bad.'

Everyone laughed as they all turned their eyes to the shy groom. Lin Xie was embarrassed and mumbled, "Grooms should also be given a fan."

Dongmei was made to sit on one side, and the groom was made to sit on the other. "We have a ritual, which we haven't performed in two hundred years, As there was no girl born in the Bai family."

"I hope you all won't mind." Bai Wenqi said while his eyes were examining the weirdly dressed guest.

Lin Jingwei answered, "Oh! I know that; please go ahead."

Lin Xie and Bai Dongmei had no idea what the older man was talking about. Shouyi left her daughter alone, went inside her room, and came up with a file. Jingwei's assistant also took out a file. It was a peculiar file; its cover was red and tied with a green ribbon.

Shouyi asked Lin Xie to sign both documents first. As soon as the file fell in his hand, He started reading carefully, line by line. Shouyi laughed at him; this time, his cheeks turned pinkish from embarrassment.

A low voice came from his mouth, "Was I not supposed to read it?" He side-eyed Jingwei and everyone again burst into laughter and this time, Dongmei smiled faintly. It was her first smile this week. Though she could not see through her fan what he looked like.

"My son-in-law is so hilarious." Bai Qi chuckled.

"My brother has lost his mind because of my cousin-in-law's presence. I guess, his brain will jump out from his ears and dance in a club when he sees her." Fan Xian giggled. Lin Xie could not scold him in front of everyone, especially when sitting in the place of a groom. So he held himself back from taking his revenge later.

Suddenly, a soft scream was heard from the entrance, "I will not let you possess my father. You evil witch!"

Dongmei's eyes widened as she tried to remove her fan and take a look at them. A wave of horror ran over Lin Xie as he turned his head to confirm if he guessed the person right.

Everybody looked at the tiny human standing at the threshold of the doorway. Maidservant 1 stopped Dongmei from removing her fan and asked other maidservants to block her view. They did stand before her like a fence.

Shouyi was also astonished as other people were and walked up to the boy and asked him with a smile on her face, "Who is your father? And who is the witch here?"

The young little boy looked no older than Bai An, her son. He trembled as he hid the black permanent marker in his pocket. His big ferocious eyes gathered the bits of courage that fell as soon as she approached him.

"Lin Xie is my father, and the woman marrying him is the witch." No sooner did he say that than he ran towards Dongmei and jumped on her lap. The maidservants did not dare to touch him and moved away from his way. Even the strict maidservant o, did not get near to stop him from crossing the curtain.

Dongmei was startled, but her legs were numb from sitting, and she could not move since she did not make a move and stayed still,` covering her face with a fan. Then, the little boy moved her lover with his little hand and caught her off guard.

As the bride, Dongmei did not stop him to not embarrassing herself. The unruly little boy took out his marker a removed its cap, and the nip was about to touch her cheeks, but she grabbed his little wrist and gave him a wide cold stare that was quite similar to her mother's.

Before Dongmei could say anything, The older man Jingwei ran and pulled him away. He pinched his cheeks and said, "There must be a misunderstanding."

The little boy tossed like a fish out of water that quiet, desperate for breath. Then, finally, he yelled and screamed, "Father! You cannot marry another woman. My mother is still alive!"
