Crazy

"What are you doing in a place like this? Where are your parents?"

Lya kept trying to talk with the little baby, even though she knew she would get no response. But mysteriously, through his eyes, she seemed to get a few answers.

In a single instant, something flipped inside of her and she suddenly said: "Dacia, I think I just found the perfect reason."

"What?! Are you taking about him?" Dacia looked super confused as she pointed towards the baby.

"Yes! Him."

"Wait... No... You can't possibly be thinking of..."

"Yes, I'll be his mother."

Dacia couldn't bring herself to believe in what she had just heard. It was like the whole world had just started spinning inside of her head. She couldn't understand how Lya would take care of a baby, being in the tough position she was in.

However, she ignored those difficult things and started voicing out her doubts about the basic stuff.

"You don't have any experience with kids, how will you take care of him? Wait... Heck! You can't even produce milk in order to feed him... This won't do!"

Lya felt embarrassed after hearing those crude words, but her resolution didn't falter. It was like she knew it would work; somehow.

"I know that I have no experience in these matters, but that only means that I need to learn. As for the... The means to feed him... We can ask someone... Andrea! We can ask Andrea!"

Andrea was one of their friends, a fellow member of their tribe, who had recently given birth to a baby girl. Even though Lya didn't really like to rely on other people, she decided to do it this time.

Dacia facepalmed as she couldn't really comprehend why her most trusted friend, was so adamant on taking care of that child. Their relationship had not always been one of friendship, like how it is now, but one of master and servant. Dacia, had once served Lya, working just like any other common servant in her household. Only after some complicated events had happened in their past, did they become real friends. At least, now, they were inseparable.

That's why when Lya said she would be taking care of that child, Dacia was also included in the equation, even though she still thought she was not. Lya knew about her limited capabilities and could only count with her bosom friend to learn about menial jobs.

"You're crazy! No one is going to buy that! If you think the people from the Grey Mane Tribe is going to believe you, then you must be out of your mind!"

Lya was able to feel the worry and anxiety taking control over her friend, and she silently marveled about why she wasn't feeling the same way. It was like the child in her arms gave her a sense of tranquility.

Suddenly, Dacia paused in the middle of her agitation, as the most crucial question had surfaced in her mind. She couldn't help but blurt it out.

"Even... Even if they were to believe that you're his real mother, then what about the father? You couldn't possibly be thinking that they would accept a half-baked lie like that, right?"

Dacia had finally spoken something that made Lya feel preoccupied, concerned. A male figure was heavily valued in their tribal-like society and if it weren't for an existence like the Southern Moon Tribe, females would never be considered as real warriors.

Dacia looked at her friend and saw her eyebrows furrowing, as if she had finally put a bit of understanding on her crazy mind. However, not even if it took a million or plus years, she would be able to guess what her friend was thinking about; how deep she was willing to go, in order to take care of that kid.

Lya felt tongue-tied by that question and just as it seemed like she had been cornered, her eyes landed on the flat figure of her best friend.

Dacia was a pretty much a plain and normal woman, when compared to Lya. Her brownish black hair wasn't that long, her facial features were considered as a common and on top of it, her figure was not voluptuous, but flat.

In a way, she had her own charms and an example of that, was her sweet and melodious voice. But if it wasn't for her feminine voice, maybe she could disguise herself as a man.

Lya looked at her flat-chested friend and an idea couldn't help, but come to her mind.

'No... Wait... The men from the Southern Moon Tribe are in a certain way, kind of feminine... They are not tall and they don't have many muscles either. Maybe... Maybe this could work.'

"Dacia, you don't have to worry about that anymore, since I found a father for him!"

As she heard those words, Dacia couldn't believe in that revelation. All she could think of, was that her closest friend had somehow found a lover while they stood inside the Southern Moon Tribe and had decided to review it for her now.

Her mouth went totally agape and her mind accelerated, as many questions were piling up.

'Wasn't Lya so averse to the idea of leaving her fate to a man? Considering that she had changed her mind then... What was the reason for her to be hiding it from me?'

Dacia's mind was racing against time, trying to think about hundreds of possibilities, but Lya's next words had almost cracked the foundation of her soul, upturning everything she could think of being a reasonable scenario, as her jaw dropped in total shock.

"And that person, is you."

A sudden silence reigned free in that forest area. At that moment, it seemed that not even the animals that lived nearby, dared to make any sound.

Dacia's eyes trembled and the corner of her lips twitched, as she found it was incredibly hard, to say anything.

Ironically, the only thing she was able to blurt out was: "I, hm... I'm sorry. I don't like women!"
