The Knowledge We Seek

"Portia. Put that away and get into bed. It's lights out right now, and If I catch you again breaking the rules you will be punished," Helen said. She was the nun in charge of most aspects in the orphanage. Portia sighed and tucked her book away in the cubby by her bed.

"Sorry Sister Helen," Portia apologized laying down and the lights were turned off in her room that she shared with several others. A few older girls, like her. She knew she was never going to be adopted. Honestly that was alright, this orphanage was a good one. Portia never felt scared for her life here. Those that ran it were good to the kids. Unlike some of the horror that others had faced in different places.
