He was too close

Lili watched as Chao's eyes were slowly closing and his head, relaxing on the bed. She ceased her writing speed but still made this white noise, so Chao could keep sleeping. It looked like her rhythmic writing had helped him sleep.

Of course, it did. She had been here for an entire night and even slept for a while, but he did not. He wanted to avoid sleeping like a plague. Not that Lili wondered why. But it still wasn't healthy.

The door slid open, and Doctor Bai entered the room. Lili panicked a bit, but she tried the international sign. She pressed her finger against her lips and made a sh sound. The doctor noticed her and silently chuckled.

"I know how to speak English pretty well," he whispered when he came closer to Lili. She was really surprised by his language skills.

He almost had no accent and his pronunciation was better than any of Zhu long's members, except Dylan, but she expected that from him.

"Sorry, not many people aren't shy to speak English to me. And my Cantonese isn't that good yet," she whispered back and stopped her writing.

Doctor Bai nodded and went to control Yitian's vitals. He even carefully lifted all the bandages and looked under them. When he was done making notes, he came to Lili and stood there, thinking for a minute.

"Sit down, if you want to ask something," she smiled at the hesitant doctor. But he accepted her offer and sat down in the chair next to her.

"He is healing very well. I think he will wake up soon. Given that he breathes alone, without machines, shows that his lungs healed already. I worry a bit about his mental state, though." He scratched his head. Lili knew what he meant by it, so she smiled and put the laptop on the table.

"Don't worry, I won't be here much. Lei and Dylan just had to do something with the team, so I was the only one available," she whispered truthfully. He nodded and wrote something in his papers again.

"I will book a psychotherapist to talk with him when he wakes up," he shared what he wrote down and smiled when Lili nodded. Then he frowned once again.

"Ehm, can I ask something more personal? I'm not so good with media and technologies. I don't have much time for it. But why is there so much secrecy and bodyguards around these boys?" he asked what was on his mind the whole time. Lili chuckled.

"Well, one reason is Yitian's mother. They are afraid she would find out and finish her work…" she started, but saw the confusion on doctor Bai's face. Lili frowned.

"That she will come and try to kill him because she failed the first time," she repeated differently and understanding flashed on the doctor's face. So his English wasn't as perfect as she thought.

"Then if someone would find them here, some fans might come in and disturb the peace. They're something like celebrities in a certain internet circle." Doctor Bai frowned because he couldn't catch what she meant by it exactly. He leaned more towards her.

"Can you repeat it, please? I didn't catch it," he said, and Lili worriedly looked over to Chao. She leaned even more to the doctor.

"They are celebrities in the gaming world. On the internet, some people are really into them," she whispered, breaking the language barrier.

The door slid open and doctor Bai and Lili got startled by the sudden noise and jerked. Lei came in, but halted his steps as soon as he saw the sleeping Chao, then he turned to Lili, and his smile slowly faded.

Lili looked at the distance, or more like a lack of distance, she had with the doctor, and jerked herself back, getting away from him. Lei's brows shot up and he said only one word: "Explain."

Lili smiled. She expected his voice to be harsher, but he just asked for an explanation. Good.

"We were whispering to not wake up Chao. And doctor Bai didn't hear me, so he leaned closer," she whispered to Lei, but he only frowned.

"I couldn't get what you said. Can you speak louder?" Lei said. It made both Lili and doctor Bai chuckle, and Lili was desperately holding in her laughter. Seeing that she couldn't speak, doctor Bai stood up and walked to Mr. Jin.

"She said we were close so we could hear the whispering better so we wouldn't wake up Mr. Jin," Bai Qiao said as he passed Mr. Jin, who nodded and then went to sit next to Lili.

"Did he say that it's because we couldn't hear each other?" she asked when she finished her choking with her own laughter. He nodded and then hugged her tightly, nuzzling his head on her neck. Lili got goosebumps, but she didn't care now.

"What happened, honey?" she asked and caressed his back.

"We need to go to Korea together. Dylan will stay here. And I need one more favor from you," he breathed out, sounding really exhausted.

"Say... What do you need?" she asked and kept stroking his back.

"Could you please be my partner at tomorrow's party? It's important for the company because there are many investors and stockholders there. They somehow got the whiff of my fiancée and they want to meet her. They are afraid of the company's future... Or they say." Lili hated public events. She hated them so much.

"Yeah, no problem. I will be the perfect accessory for you. I just don't have a dress to wear," she said and smiled as he straightened his back and pulled back from her hug, but still held her arms.

"You won't mind?" he asked, stunned. She would mind. Even the thought of attending public events with important people in a different country made her barf.

"Of course, I won't mind. I will help you, don't worry." Lei was using her to boost and strengthen his position in the company, and this was the first time he hated it. He hated it so much that he wanted to cancel everything. But he couldn't and he was deeply regretting it.
