The Borderlands

The synchronized beeping of alarms marked the end of the Silent Hours. Machine activity on the surface was expected to increase rapidly over the next few minutes, with the main infantry and hunter class units returning from Sorus. The three teams knew they had to activate the ultralink beacons before the redeployment started.

Guzman's Scouts had to cover the least distance since they were already close to the northern border. An automated toll station on the ground separated Sorus from its neighboring district. All ground vehicles were required to pay a domestic toll for crossing over to Aurus.

Things were a little different for the aerial vehicles. All hoverbikes and sky rovers were required to acquire a special flying permit before being allowed to travel between districts. Though they didn't have to stop at a toll station, they had to submit to an inspection when approached by the Xacters: special flying vehicles used exclusively by the cops.
