Buried in the sand

Kevin led the way on his Raptor, and Suzy followed behind on her Falcon. They landed in a secluded part of the desert bordered by dunes on all sides.

While there were Saguaro Cactus plants and dry tumbleweeds scattered throughout, this part of the desert was completely devoid of vegetation. It was a relatively flat area with dry, loose sand covering the surface.

It would have been impossible for the naked human eye to notice something in the sand from such an elevation, but Kevin's bionic eyes had no difficulty spotting the irregular concrete structures sticking out from the ground.

The first thing which caught Suzy's eye as they touched down was a massive pair of irregular conical foundations approximately five hundred feet away from each other. Between them was a partially constructed flat concrete base.
