Chapter 12: The Truth About the Past

Celia did her best to push down her hope as she walked into the boardroom to hear the contest results. She did not want to be disappointed again, nor did she want to be embarrassed. She kept a composed expression on her face.

Celia could not see Georgina’s face because she was along the same side of the table as she was. Did she have a trick up her sleeve again?

“Well, since it’s the end of the day, and a Friday, we won’t take up too much of your time,” declared Daniel, another manager and co-judge with Winnie today.

“Yes,” Winnie agreed. “The winners are, of course, those who managed to deliver an emerald meeting the specifications on time.”

“So,” Daniel said, clearing his throat. A hush of anticipation fell over the room. “The winners for this contest are—once again—Celia and Georgina!”

A polite round of applause broke out.
