“So… I won the competition!” Celia exclaimed after babbling through the story of the last couple days. She had gotten a second wind, and sat upright and smiled at both her children. “Alongside Georgina.”
“What does that mean?” Lennie asked with a frown.
“It’s a tie, my baby,” Celia explained. “It means that Georgina and I both won. Whenever I win, she wins as well,” she added with a dismal expression on her face.
Carter glanced at her, surprised she would bring that up in front of the kids. She really was drunk.
“That’s weird,” Lennie responded with an even deeper frown.
“It doesn’t sound like winning,” Lillian commented, shaking her head in contemplation.
“Oh, but your mother did win,” Carter responded quickly. “Just because one person succeeds doesn’t mean other people can’t. Out of everyone in the office, your mom was one of only two who finished the treasure hunt. She’s amazing,” he concluded a big grin on his face.
