Chapter 31: Intruder at the Door

“Don’t you know?” Celia responded. “Your wealth, your power, and then on top of that, your looks. Who can compete with that? How on earth could I ever experience something natural with you? We’re so different.

“So, you’re just playing along, waiting for it all to simmer down?” Carter asked, surprised.

“I’m taking things one step at a time for the twins’ sake,” Celia replied.

“So, you feel that the twins are on my level?” Carter asked.

“Well, definitely,” Celia responded, “considering the way you go all out for them. But me? No. That’s another story altogether. That’s why your mother felt that it was right to take my kids away from me.”

“You can’t measure me with the same yardstick that you use for my mother,” Carter responded. “It sort of belittles me that you don’t consider my own merits when judging me,” he said seriously.
