“Carlson offered Laura a substantial amount of money to scandalize the BP Group,” Carter replied. 


“Why would she do something that could ruin her whole reputation as a famous actress if it backfires?” Celia asked. 


“Perhaps she really needed that kind of money,” Carter responded with a shrug. “But we can talk and plan in the morning. Let’s get some sleep.” 


Celia also suddenly felt overcome by exhaustion, so she snuggled up to Carter’s chest and drifted off to sleep. 


When she woke up in the morning, Carter wasn’t in the bed with her. Apparently, that daybreak phone call and talk weren’t enough to make him sleep in on a Saturday morning. 


Celia showered and took her time getting ready for the day.
