The Start Of Something New

As soon as Charlotte pulls into the parking lot I walk towards her car and slide into the passenger seat.

"You don't look happy" she says as I close the car door behind me

"My dad asked me to take his place in his gang if he were to die" I say as I turn my head to look at her

I suddenly feel the air thicken as her teasing smile quickly turns into a look of anger.

"That son of a-" she starts to say before I cut her off

"Hey, it's fine. I said no anyway" I say with a dismissive tone

She ignores me as she reverses out of the parking space and drives towards the open road.

-

A couple of kisses later and she was back to her teasing attitude.

"So, I've been meaning to ask you something" she says nervously as she turns into her driveway and parks the car

"Okay" I say before I unbuckle my seatbelt and turn towards her

"Do you, um," she says as she nervously fiddles with the tips of her fingers

Is she nervous?

Aw, she's so cute.

I grab her hand and smile while lacing our fingers together.

"Say it really fast" I suggest

"Okay," she nods her head

"Doyouwanttogoonadatewithme" she says

"Um, a little slower" I ask

"Do you want to go on a date with me?" She asks in a fragile voice

I smile so wide that I'm sure my face will break.

"Yes" I say which causes her head to snap in my direction with a look of shock on her face

"Really?" She asks

I nod my head which makes her smile brightly as she picks me up and pulls me over the armrest onto her lap.

I blush as I look down at her hands.

Oh god.

It's okay, Aspen.

Just pretend that you're not straddling your best friend, in nothing but a dress, and that her hands are not on your thighs.

"So, where are we going to have this date at?" I ask in a shaky tone as she uses her thumbs to massage my inner thighs

"It's a surprise" she says with a smirk

"Can you give me a hint at least?" I ask

"Nope" she says with a smile

"Then how do I know what to wear?" I say with a raised brow

"Good point," she says

"Wear something that's dressy but casual" she says which causes me to laugh

"Will do."

-

"What the hell am I going to wear?" I groan in frustration as I flop back onto my bed

I left Charlotte's house an hour ago so that I could get ready for our date.

The problem?

I have nothing to wear.

"Where are you guys going anyway?" Carolina asks from my desk chair as she looks up from her book

"I don't know, she won't tell me" I say as I sit up and tie my hair in a messy bun

"Okay," she says before she stands up and walks into my closet

"How did she say to dress?" She asks

"Dressy but casual" I say.

She nods her head before looking through my racks of clothing.

"Nope"

"Nope"

"No-" She stops mid sentence as she pulls out a dark blue blazer

"Do you have a white t-shirt and black jeggings?" She asks as she hands me the blazer

"Yeah, why?" I ask

"Pair them with that. I'll pick out the shoes and jewelry" she says

I stand up and smile before I grab the clothing and walk towards my bathroom.

"Thank you" I yell to her

"No problem" she yells back as I shut the bathroom door

-

"How do I look?" I ask as I walk out of the bathroom

"You look like Charlotte's future girlfriend" she says with a smirk as she hands me a pair of brown booties and a chunky silver necklace

I blush as I retrieve the items from her hands.

"Aw, you're blushing" she gushes

I ignore her and slip my boots on before clasping the necklace around my neck.

"Perfect" she says as she checks out my outfit

"I didn't know that you had a talent for fashion design" I say as I plug in my curling iron

"I took a course on it in college" she says with a dismissive tone

"What did you major in?" I ask

Maybe she could give me some ideas.

Before she can answer my phone goes off causing Carolina to let out a breath of relief.

I grab my phone and smile when I see the caller ID.

"Hey" I say

"Hello, beautiful" Charlotte answers which causes me to smile

"You can't even see me" I say with a chuckle

"If I could I'd still say you're beautiful" she says as I blush

"Stop it, I'm blushing" I say

I put my phone on speaker mode so that I can curl my hair.

"I wish I could see it. You're cute when you blush" she says which makes me smile

"Charlotte" I say sternly

"Fine, I'll call you later" she says

"Bye" I respond

"Bye."

"Wow" Carolina says in disbelief from my bed

"What?" I ask as I look at her smug expression in the mirror

"She's so whipped" she says which causes me to laugh

"You know that she'll deny that theory" I say as I finish curling my hair

"Whatever" she responds with a smile

-

"Are you okay?" Carolina asks me with a panicked facial expression

"No, it just hit me that I'm going on a date with Charlotte" I say as I continue to pace in front of her

"Seriously, that's what you're worried about?!" She asks in disbelief

"She's my best friend" I say as if that's validation enough

"Okay, so what?" She asks

"Best friends aren't supposed to go on dates with each other" I exclaim

"Best friends also aren't supposed to make out with each other, but you guys did that. Multiple times" she says with an amused tone as I blush

"So, what are you saying?" I ask as I sit down in my desk chair

"I'm saying that you guys past that line a long time ago" she says as if it's obvious

Before I can speak I hear a knock on the door downstairs.

"Shit, She's here" I say as I jump up in fright

"Chill, I'll answer the door" she says.

I walk downstairs and immediately smile when my eyes meet Charlotte's.

"Wow" She says as she checks me out

"Oh god, does my outfit look bad? Am I too dressed up?" I ask as I look down at my outfit with a worried expression

"No," she immediately dismisses as she walks up to me

"Your outfit it perfect," she says as she grabs my hand and places a kiss on it

"And you look beautiful in it" she finishes as she laces our fingers together

"Aww" I say as I gaze up into her eyes

"I love this but you guys should go before you're late" Carolina says from beside the door

"She's right" Charlotte says before she drags me out the door and towards her car

"Are you going to tell me where we're going?" I ask her as she opens the passenger side door for me

"Nope" she says with a smirk as she helps me in

"It was worth a try" I say as I shrug my shoulder

-

"Are we there yet?" I ask for the hundredth time

"No" Charlotte responds for the hundredth time

"Are we there yet?"

"No"

"Are we there yet?"

"Yes"

"Are we- wait really?!" I ask as I sit up in my seat only to be blinded by bright lights

My eyes quickly dart around the area which brings a smile to my face.

"You brought me to the carnival" I say as I turn to face Charlotte whose already looking at me

"I remember you saying how you haven't been in years, so I decided to change that" she says

"Thank you, I appreciate it" I say before I lean in and give her a gentle peck on the lips

I think I surprised her since it took her a moment to kiss me back.

I pull away and flash her a bright smile.

"Lets go before the lines get long" I say before unbuckling my seatbelt and climbing out of the car.

-

Charlotte bought me cotton candy and a bag of kettle corn.

There's no better way to a girls heart than buying her food.

She also won me a giant stuffed bear since my broken arm prevents me from doing certain tasks.

"We should go on the Ferris wheel" I say when my eyes spot the giant lighted wheel

"Um, c-can you pick something else. Preferably something closer to the ground" she stutters

I turn to face her and I'm met with her nervously biting her bottom lip as she stares at the Ferris wheel.

Is she scared?

"Don't tell me that you're scared," I say teasingly with a smirk

"Because I may just have to hold this over you every time you tease me" I finish

"I'm not afraid of heights, little one, and I can prove it" she says before she walks towards the Ferris wheel

"I'm only four inches shorter than you, Charlotte" I groan out as I trudge after her

-

"Okay, so I may have a little fear of heights" Charlotte squeaks out as our seat stops at the top of the Ferris wheel

"You don't say" I sarcastically retort as I show her the claw marks on my forearm, that she caused.

"This isn't funny, Aspen" she says

"Okay, there's nothing to be afraid of," I say when she jumps at the sound of fireworks

"There's many reasons to be scared" she says in a panicked tone

I grab Charlotte's hand and interlock our fingers together which causes her to look down at our hands with an appreciative expression.

"Everything is going to be fine" I say to her with a smile on my face

"Yeah, maybe you're- Nope I can't do this" she says as the Ferris wheel starts to move again

"Just look into my eyes, it'll be over before you know it" I say as I caress the side of her face

She looks up so that I'm now looking into her bright green eyes.

The same eyes that give me butterflies.

The same eyes that make me tingly all over.

The same eyes that belong to my best friend and...

The girl I love with all my heart.
