37. SAMUEL'S CONFESSION

She heard a knock and turned to the door, "Mom, please, I said I want to rest my head." The person knocked harder, I'm coming."

"Mom, I said... What are you doing here?" She asked.

He smiled, "You don't want me here?"

"You..." Suddenly, she heard some form of noise coming from downstairs, she rushed down with him, following her from behind.

"Susan..." She gasped on seeing the person.

Susan turned in her direction as she called her name and entered the house with force, pushing Mary in the process.

Yvonne pushed Susan as she got to her, making her fall, "Who told you to come in?"

"How dare you?" Susan stood from the floor, dusting her gown.

Yvonne folded her hands, on her chest, "You pushed my mom."

"You still dare to talk to me like that?"

Yvonne looked at her mockingly, "And who are you?" Susan eyed her speechless.

Yvonne laughed, "Bestie," Emphasizing the "BESTIE" and smirked at her. "Somethings happened 5 years ago that made me leave back then and you were the main cause of it."

"Yvonne, wake up. That was 5 years ago, let bygones be bygones."

Yvonne smiled and sat down, "Aww... But bygones aren't in my dictionary. Only revenge."

"You want to take revenge on Raymond and me? You love him too much to do that to him."

"I did not say Raymond or anyone's name, Oh... are you afraid I'll take revenge on you for what you did?" Yvonne winked.

"You can't. You're still the gentle and non-violent Yvonne, I know." Susan smiled at her.

Yvonne cleans an imaginary tear, "You are making me so emotional with your compliments which are not needed. That Yvonne is gone and buried, bestie." She smiled.

"There's nothing you can do. Raymond and I are getting married soon, what can you do within these few days?"

Yvonne felt weak at the mention of the marriage but didn't give herself out, giving her a blank expression, "The marriage is not important as you take it, it could be canceled within days."

"What would you do?" Susan asked.

"Simple, Go to Raymond, telling him I love him and ready to fight for our love. Hmm..." Pretending to think, "Oh, first thing foremost, cancel the marriage."

"You won't dare to do that."

Yvonne smiled, "Watch me." She stood up, going up the stairs. "Oops, I forgot," She turned to Susan, "An advise my dear, collect those invitation cards that were distributed."

"Why?"

"A new invitation card will be printed out and distributed, and I mean the original invitation card that have the name of the bride in it." She winked and went back to her room without looking back.

"Slut." Susan left the place, angry and ashamed. She was angry at Raymond, after all the love she had shown him and everything, she had done for him. "Yvonne, I can't let you take him from me without a fight."

Samuel stood at a corner, surprised at what he heard. Mercy's brother and Yvonne had a history with Susan since 5 years ago and no one is ready to back down for the other, what surprised him the most was Yvonne's expression.

"Sam, don't think too much. You can't put the pieces together even if you try." Mary stood by the door, watching him.

"I'm sorry. If I had known all these would happen, I wouldn't have followed Yvonne downstairs."

Mary smiled, "I know. You don't need to apologize, it has happened."

"I'm going upstairs to Yvonne's room, Ma'am." He went up to her room, knocked, and entered.

He met Yvonne in tears, "Hey, why are you crying?" He moved closer to console her.

She told him what happened 5 years ago, "I'm not supposed to fight her on who Raymond is to marry. They've been together for 5 years since I left him then suddenly, I'm barging into their lives and wants to ruin everything."

"Why do you want to ruin everything?" He helped her to sit up.

She laughed, "Many reasons. I'm still in love with Raymond and I want him for myself."

"With all, you told me, I understand but didn't you also say his parents were against the relationship?"

"Yeah." She whispered. "I ran away that time but not again, I have to stand by him to fight this time."

"And what if you don't succeed?"

She moved away to look at him, "You don't want me to?"

"Why won't I?" He responded quickly and went to the window side. "Have you told him?"

"No, I haven't." She smiled in thoughts.

"When did you and Mercy start?" Yvonne asked all of a sudden.

"A month ago." He turned to look at her, "Why do you ask?"

She smiled, "Can't I ask for no reason?"

"You should have a reason for asking. Maybe you're jealous or..." He winked.

"Excuse me, jealous? Of who or what?" She stood from the bed and went to the bathroom to wash her face.

"That I'm in a relationship with her and not you."

She laughed, drying her face, "I wish... I have someone else, Sir." Making them laugh, she sat down on the edge of the bed. "Less I forget, where have you been since these past days?"

"Around." He shrugged.

Raising her eyebrows at him, "Around as in where? Since the night of our date?"

"Nothing. I have been busy with work." rubbed his forehead.

"Or Is something going on that I'm not aware of?"

"You won't understand if I tell you neither can you do anything about it." He turned away from her piercing gaze.

"Hmm... You are making me curious." She went to him and stood beside him. "Tell me."

He stared at her for some time and brought his head closer, she smiled thinking he was about to whisper in her ear but instead he kissed her.

She stood there in shock wide-eyed and came back to her senses as he bit her lips. She pushed him away in shock, "Samz..."She raised her hand to hit him.

"I'm sorry, it won't happen again."

"Why did you do it?" She whispered, surprised at the sudden kiss.

"I have always liked you, Yvonne. What I said the other day on the road was true, it's you I'm in love with, no other girl."

"But... How? We are best friends." She couldn't grasp what he was saying or how he had developed those feelings.

"I don't want best friends, I want something more." He said with hope glowing in his eyes.

"What of Mercy? You are just playing her?"

He sighed in defeat, "She knows what she was getting into when she accepted me, I explained things to her. You don't feel anything for me?" He said pleadingly.

She shook her head negatively, "I don't." She whispered. "I promise, I did not know about your feelings for me."

"I know. Then you would have been careful of what you say or what you do most times whereby treating me like you would to a stranger and not take me as a friend, and I don't want that."

"I am sorry, I never mean to hurt your feelings," Yvonne said.

He smiled briefly, "We are still friends or best friends, right?" Opening his arms wide for a hug.

"Sure." She nodded and ran to hug him.

He released from the hug and ruffled her hair, "Bye, I'll see you later." He left without looking back.

Immediately he left, Yvonne called Mercy, "Hey."

"He told you about it, right?" Yvonne knew she was referring to his feelings. Samuel had told Mercy before he came to her house.

"Yeah, he did and he's not in a good mood. Why don't you go and keep him company."

Mercy blushed, "I will. Thanks."

Yvonne was about to hang up but Mercy stopped her, "Wait... You hurt my brother."

"I'm sorry. Will rectify my mistakes and settle our issues, where is he?"

Mercy sighed, "In my room, he has reconstructed his room to a mess though. Later" She ended the call.
