"So the conflicts within the Church and among the Angels had escalated to this extent..."
Russell mused.
As he thought, his hands did not stop moving. It was like stroking a cat subconsciously while pondering.
He held the Paradise Bird in his arms, gently caressing her hair and back.
The Paradise Bird too felt a sense of tranquility and peace.
Initially, she had crept into Russell's embrace just wanting to cry.
But she had not expected that Russell's embrace would be so warm, it reminded her involuntarily of her father, and thus she cried even harder... because she still remembered that Russell could take on her father's appearance. Although Russell had not transformed, in her mind it felt as if her father was holding her, and a sense of inexplicable grievance made her cry out in pain.
After she had cried, she felt a sense of attachment. Even though she had already cried, she still clung to Russell's embrace, reluctant to leave.
