Raging flames

Callan's face turned dark as he read over the page of rules that Adrian had written on a piece of parchment.

His handwriting was neat but he didn't like what was written. Adrian had seemed awfully keen to write up the rules and Callan was curious as to what he would propose so he had let him, although now he was regretting this a little. In only half an hour, his pretty new roommate had thought out some pretty bizarre rules. The parchment read:

Dorm S-12's roommate agreement

1. Personal Privacy is to be respected at any given time

2. The two of us will each use our own bathrooms only

3. Unless otherwise permitted, we are not allowed to enter the other person's side of the room.

4. We will each help to keep the dorm clean and do our own laundry

5. No bringing outsiders into the dorm unless we both agree

6. No foxes

Callan disliked the first or third rule and didn't see the point of the fourth rule. Why would they have to clean it themselves when they had magic? He didn't see the need to do it manually, and as for the sixth rule, it piqued his curiosity.

"Why no foxes?" He asked the platinum blonde boy sitting on the couch and staring at him with wide and honest eyes as he waited for his approval.

Adrian shifted uncomfortably, "I'm afraid of foxes." He answered him, a frown wrinkling his smooth forehead, "Something about them is terrifying. They all have this hungry look in their eyes."

He shuddered as he recalled a time in his youth when sleeping over at Damien's estate, he had run into a member of the Fox clan. Those hungry slitted eyes had made him feel like prey in front of a predator and he had become petrified, barely able to move an inch. The lady had bent over and sniffed his neck and then her lips rippled back to reveal two piercingly white canines as she'd morphed into her half-fox form.

He could still remember how saliva spilled relentlessly from her mouth and dampened his shoulder and the severe trembling that racked his knees, barely making him able to stand up. If it wasn't for Damien rescuing him at that exact moment, he feared he really would've been eaten by her.

One crunch. One swallow. Then gone...

"You're trembling." Without Adrian noticing, Adrian had gotten up from his chair and come to sit next to him on the couch. He had already broken the first rule as Adrian felt a warm sensation as Adrian pressed his palm against his left cheek tenderly, "Are you alright?"

Seeing the concerned grey eyes of his roommate, Adrian couldn't help but be slightly moved and felt that Callan was simply too kind.

"I am, thank you." He smiled softly, his eyes fluttering gently as he felt Callan's fingers gently caress the side of his cheek in a comforting manner.

Callan's eyes darkened and he swallowed. It was too early now. But he promised himself that eventually, he would find a way to make this perfect boy his. In all the seventeen years of his life, he had never been attracted to anyone before, but suddenly he was and the urge was almost unbearable. In fact, till he'd met his new roommate, he'd shown so little interest in anyone else around him that the King and Queen had been thoroughly convinced that there must be something wrong with him so they'd forcefully ordered a doctor to examine him, but everything in his body was working normally.

Exasperatedly, they had given up and had instead consolidated themselves that even if the prince was asexual, at least he was healthy.

But now it seemed like that wasn't the case and back then, he just hadn't found the right person to be interested in.

Just as he was thinking this, Adrian reached out to move his hand off his cheek and instead cupped it inside his own hands.

"Wow, you're body's so warm!" He couldn't help but admire it. Mermaids were cold-blooded and although he was in his human form and sadly missing his ear fins and tail, his body's temperature was naturally much colder than other humans, "You're like a heater."

Callan stared at Adrian curiously. "Do you feel a burning sensation?"

Seeing Adrian's eyes flicker in confusion, Callan subconsciously channeled more of the golden phoenix's power into his palms. He had inherited the power of the great bird more than anyone else in his royal family had before. It was a huge deal as he also possessed the two attributes most suited to the bird's bloodline, the light and fire ones. Because of this, his inheritance was deemed perfect and his bloodline was powerful which constantly caused a raging heat to surge through his body and torment him if not controlled.

It was also this oppressive heat that made some people uncomfortable when they touched him but seeing how Adrian didn't even flinch but rather complemented his source of heat made Callan feel something inexplicable. It was like he had reached the sole oasis in the middle of a barren dying desert.

Not only had he found someone who could handle his touch but it even felt nice to touch him back. The cold from his hands gave him a soothing feeling like the heat in his body never existed in the first place but in its place, the flames of his desire burned even fiercer.

He had a million questions more now regarding the boy's identity but he pushed them all aside and concentrated on the beautiful present.

"Mmm," Adrian let out a soft groan from his pale exposed throat as he felt the heat cupped in his hands increase and stared at Callan with bright eyes, "Is this what the fire element feels like?"

He sounded excited and undeterred.

"Are you not affected by the heat?" Callan wondered if it had something to do with the boy's elements, even though he knew that mere elements were not enough to control the heat as the empirical magicians had tried before and failed miserably.

Adrian, although good at keeping secrets, had an honest personality and was also a bit gullible. He didn't release the shockingness of the situation or what Callan was asking.

So he simply replied with his thoughts "No it feels really good."

Although Adrian was unaware of the full extent of it, mermaids possessed the strongest water element in the whole kingdom, so much so that even the phoenix's bloodline couldn't have that much of an effect on him but rather was a very enjoyable sensation for someone who was usually cold.

A faint flush appeared on his pale cheeks that made him slightly woozy as Callan increased the heat again.

He'd tried alcohol once by accident and if he had to compare this current sensation to anything, he would compare it to that.

But in Callan's eyes, all he saw was a pair of soft blue eyes that seemed to beg for more as a slight flush appeared upon those tender white cheeks. He knew he should probably back away, but Adrian's lower lip trembled slightly as his adam's apple bobbed up and down his throat.

How could anyone have the willpower to refuse that? He thought to himself sharply and slowly backed away before he lost all rationality.

But it was at that moment that the platinum-haired boy pounced forwards upon seeing the source of the heat shy away and Callan felt a pair of soft lips that although thin in appearance were surprisingly welcoming and plump, press against his own and all rationality left him in that instant.
