The first year's dormitories were located in the far corner of the Academy, a decent distance away from the central campus where all the action happened. Unless an incident occurred the students were largely unregulated in their dormitories as they were all older than 16 years old and already considered adults, hence when Adrian and Callan decided to leave, they didn't need to check out at the gates, although they had to remember to bring their student id's if they wanted to get back in.
As a form of identification for when students weren't wearing their uniforms, each of them was required to bring one of the academy's insignia tokens with them. For the first year's S-class, they were all given issued small emerald circular coins, engraved with the Academy's insignia on the front, then their names on the back.
Since these were forged with magic, they couldn't be replicated and would also not respond to the touch of anyone other than the student they were linked to, because when held by that student they would glow.
When Adrian was checking in with the dorm head, he'd pricked his finger and allowed a drop of his blood to fall upon the coin in order for it to be like this.
Pulling his hood back over his head, Adrian followed Callan out the door. As appearance disguising magic was strictly prohibited on the academy's grounds, he had to wait until they were well outside of the school gates before trying out Callan's method.
And it took quite a while to get there too as this place was really massive! Although the junior dorms were mostly deserted as it was only the second day of check-ins and there were still five more till it formally began, the rest of the campus was buzzing.
Once more, Adrian found himself staring wide-eyed at all the senior students, teachers, and professors, busily shuffling around the campus. The school's uniform for boys was murky black pants coupled with a grey jumper/blazer and light red tie. It looked smart and chic and was the same for girls except they had pleated skirts.
The classes in school for each level were ranked from F to S, and although the physical difference in uniforms was minor, the number of golden stars engraved on the right of each piece of uniform made all the difference in how students were treated.
For S-classes, they had a total of 7 golden glistening stars and that number decreased all the way down to F-class, who only had one.
Each class had a total of 20 twenty students, with S-Class as the only exception as it had only fourteen.
With Adrian hiding under his hood and Callan's average appearance, no one took any special notice of them and they made it outside the gates with ease.
As the Academy bordered the outskirts of Edaine City, which was the third biggest in the city, less than ten minutes later, Adrian and Callan found themselves in the busy and bustling street. Scattered everywhere were different vendors selling various herbs, medicines, talent books, and other magic necessities, of course taking the opportunity of all the annual new student arrivals.
The merchants and vendors were stupid and naturally targetted all the genius youths who were likely to come from very wealthy backgrounds.
But both the two of them had little interest and quickly ducked into one of the deserted side alleyways just out of the public's eyes.
As Adrian stared into Callan's smiling grey eyes, his heart began to pound with excitement. He'd already learned the method when inside the dorm room, but had to revert back when leaving the rooms.
Back then it had shocked him so much that his breath got caught in his throat! It was really quite an astonishingly simple yet effective method and when he had stared in the mirror afterward, he could barely recognize the person staring back as himself.
It felt like he was residing in a stranger's body!
"Alright, I'm going to get started." Determinating seething from the blue orbs of his eyes, Adrian bowed his head in concentration and repeated the incantation that Callan had taught him, canceling the magic throughout his body and basking in the tingling sensation that it created.
It was a slight bit uncomfortable and Adrian frowned lightly.
The grey-haired boy watched him in silent approval.
Earlier in the room, his feeling had been confirmed that his new roommate indeed continued to surprise him. It had only taken him saying the incantation once and briefly explaining the process for Adrian to be able to complete it with ease as was truly fitting of an S-class genius, even though Adrian himself had failed to realize the extent of his talents.
Soon, Callan found himself staring at a pair of round black eyes, a freckled face, and pale, thicker lips. As Adrian pulled back his hood, in the place of his vibrant sun-like blonde hair, was a light brown tendril, that spilled over his shoulders.
But his voice still laughed sweetly as he rubbed his nose in slight embarrassment.
"Not too shabby, huh?" A happy grin spread across Adrian's face.
Callan nodded in earnest approval. Not all traces of Adrian's eye-catchingness had been removed and he was still undeniably attractive, like a cute little rabbit especially with those little black eyes, it was certainly less eye-catching and he couldn't complain.
He rubbed his hand against Adrian's soft brown hair and then suggested "Do you want to go to the Adventurer's guild or take a look around first?"
"The Adventurer's guild." Adrian didn't hesitate to reply.
It was already extortingly expensive to travel here from his parent's estate so he barely had any money left over. His parents had wanted to give him more but he'd firmly refused as he didn't want to be a burden considering they had to already pay the annual fee.
"Then let's go." The two of them exited the alleyway and strolled back into the bustling main street, and Adrian who had his hood down, had an excited expression skewered all over his face, as his eyes soaked the sight of it all in.
Even if he'd seen it all before, the sight of this many people was truly surprising. Some of them weren't even full-blooded humans with several beastkin strolling around among them, although the sight of a few young misses hailing from the fox clan, which he noticed from the corner of his eye sent chills down his spine.
Too busy looking around to notice, somewhere on the way to the Adventurer's Guild, Callan had taken the opportunity to wrap his hand around Adrian's, and their fingers subconsciously intertwined.
