Chris POV:
Chris woke up on a rough couch, soft rain pelting the windows. Chris rubbed at his sore neck, stiff from the position he’d lay in.
He found his way to his old den last night, the only place he felt like he could go.
He couldn’t go to Xolo, he wouldn’t understand.
Felicity didn’t reject Xolo’s bite, everything fell in place for the two of them like the purported magic of the Moon Goddess.
No, they didn’t struggle for their mating, and they would assume that the blame fell on Chris, that he did something to make Asa reject him.
A small voice niggled at him in the back of his head, telling him that it was his fault.
He tried to push it away.
Asa rejected him, not the other way around.
But, the voice supplied, he told Asa about how he hadn’t wanted to get mated in the first place during their talks as they got to know each other.
Maybe that caused Asa to reject him.
Or maybe the harsh rules caused Asa’s rejection, maybe Asa felt trapped.
