Chapter 43: The Angel You Can't Trust

"Oh? Of course, why didn't I think about it? Spending your money would just make everything magically better, wouldn't it? What do you know, I want a car! And I want it before tomorrow morning."

"I'll have a Maserati delivered this evening," he says, moving closer.

I smirk now, reluctant amusement making me relax. "Oh, but what would I do with one car?"

"You're right. I'll get you a fleet of them. You can tell me if you have a preference. Pick out the ones you want."

"I want three million in cash tomorrow morning."

His head falls till his mouth is next to my ear. "I'll give you ten."

Laughter bursts out of me. I shouldn't have underestimated him. He has always been able to make me laugh at the most ridiculous moments. Like now for example, when I'm supposed to be standing my ground and warning him off.

"This is ridiculous. Please. I just want you out of my house and life. That's not too much to ask, right? If you want my forgiveness, that's the only thing you can do."
