Chapter 5

Chapter 5 - Roman

I can't believe I didn't get slapped. How much? What was I thinking? I should've been slapped. But I had remembered correctly that the area around the bar was known for high traffic. I took my shot.

My wolf rumbled with excitement at the touch of her delicate little hand in ours. I felt the grin on my face stretching and turned us toward my apartment.

As the attorney on retainer for the Dark Vikings MC, I got a lot of perks. One of which was access to the modest little apartment I stayed in about 4 blocks away.

"So what's your name?" I asked as we walked hand in hand. She shot me a look out of the side of her eyes and took another drag on her cigarette.

"What do you want it to be?" she asked as she flicked her ashes. Everything in her body tensed as I led her into the nicer part of downtown.

I stopped as it dawned on me she probably never used a real name in her line of work. She turned with raised eyebrows, questioning me silently while she took another drag. Looking down at the cigarette she raised it to her perfect plump lips one last time before she flicked it away. It was while I was following her motions that a snarl escaped my chest as I realized her lip had been split. In the brighter lights that lined downtown I could also make out healing bruises under her scarily good cover up job.

"Who did this to you?" I asked with a growl as my hand reached for her face and I stepped towards her.

Her immediate fear and adrenaline assaulted my olfactory as she jerked back harder than if I had struck her. Instantly I recoiled at her obvious aversion to me touching her face, though of the many scenarios I could imagine none were good.

She stepped back a couple paces and put her hand out to stop me.

"Let's get a few things straight, big man. First, there are rules. No touching the face and no kissing. Second. I'm not here to be saved so don't even bother, and third, it's three grand for the night. Understand?" As she talked her melodious voice reached my ears and made my wolf purr. He was happy as she talked with her hands.

My big grin escaped at the thought of how cute she was at being firm. I tried to tame my glee and school my face as she narrowed her eyes at me. She crossed her arms and just waited and stared. Apparently she wanted an answer.

"Yes, I understand." I pointed to the end of the block behind her. "I live just over in that apartment building on the corner."

She looked between me and the building. Skeptical to the end. If my experience taught me anything, it was the worse the trauma the harder it was to trust.

"I'm Roman," I said as I held my hand out to her.

"Cherry," she stated as she slipped her hand into mine. Obviously the name was fake but it was a start.

"Nice to meet you, Cherry." We walked forward with my hand on her low back guiding her.

Hey guys. I wanna thank any and everyone who's given me the chance so far. I've got a lot of stories that I'm bursting to tell. I'm a single mom with three kids (though my bf and I are moving together soon.) I work full-time and love to write. Books for me have taught me not just about how to escape reality but also how to cope with and process it. I write a lot of dark and paranormal and I don't believe in making my characters lives easy. But I'd you stick with me I promise the journey will be worth it.
