Chapter 402: Doubt

Damon gasped as he forced his eyes open, feeling a throbbing pain in his head. He blinked several times, trying to adjust to the bright light that filled the room. He found himself in a lavish chamber, adorned with exquisite paintings and elegant furniture, but strangely devoid of any other occupants. As he attempted to sit up, he realized his body was wrapped in bandages, each movement sending a jolt of pain through his nerves. He groaned, feeling every inch of his body ache.

Flashes of his fierce battle with the assassin invaded his mind, making him wince and instinctively shield his face with his hands. The memories were clear and disturbing, reminding him of the peril he had faced and the injuries he had inflicted on himself.

"Ow!" Damon exclaimed involuntarily, his headache worsening as he shifted his position. The pain was intolerable, and he wished for some relief.
