Caroline

I sat by my mum's bed with her hand in mine, staring sadly at her weak and dimming eyes.

She looked as though she could pass out at any minute___and I dread that reality so much.

I sobbed quietly kissing her hand as though that could work the magic.

We were alone in the room while my dad and Richard waited outside. The beeping sound of the monitor irks me and irritates my ears but that was minimal compared to how much pain she was passing through right now.

She raised her other hand slowly and placed it on my hands that were holding hers and then, a stride of tears rolled down her cheeks effortlessly without even squeezing her eyes to enhance it.

"I don't want you to cry, baby," she said in a low tone before she wiped the tears off my face with her index finger.

"How can I…" my voice faded off in a loud sob and she shut her eyes, squeezing them and the tears rolled down her cheeks.
