Then, he kneeled down onto one knee, turning his head around to look up at her as he patted himself on the back, "Get on."
Xu Anyi's eyes had doubled in size when she saw him kneel down onto the dirt road, his bare knee resting on the hard ground, and her first reaction was to try and get him to stand up, but as she moved forward, the pain in her leg reminded her of how helpless she was at the moment.
"It's okay, I can get back," she said, although she knew she couldn't. However, riding on his back. . . She could not get herself to do it.
"If you don't get onto my back yourself, I will carry you in my arms back." He ordered, and it was obvious that he wasn't joking.
Xu Anyi considered her options, and at once, it was clear that the most sensible decision would be to get onto his back. She hopped forward on her right foot and bent down slowly, wrapping her arms around his neck.
He wrapped his arms around her knees and slowly stood up, adjusting her position slightly before he started walking forward quickly.
Originally, she was scared of wrapping her arms too tightly or being too heavy, but he did not seem to care at all and carrying her seemed easy for him as he walked forward at a quick pace, not appearing tired or breathing heavily in the slightest.
After a while, the comfortable position made her relax as she leaned forward, resting against his broad shoulders. She carefully leaned her head onto his shoulder, resting a side of her face on his shoulder as she looked out to the side, feeling each and every one of his strong and confident steps as he moved down the hill.
She could not feel the pain in her leg anymore, and unknowingly, a smile appeared on her face as she felt her eyelids slowly become heavy and then close.
When she woke up again, they had returned home and he was calling her name softly.
"We're back?" She asked, trying to get off but he did not let go of her.
"Can you open the door?" He said, bending down so she could reach the door handle. She pulled the door open and he walked in, not letting her go until they reached the living room, where he carefully set her down on the couch.
"Stay here," he ordered as he turned around and walked over to a cabinet, bending down and taking out a first aid kit.
He then carried it over to her, setting it on the ground. He then entered the bathroom and came out a minute later with a towel in his hand.
"What-" Xu Anyi was just about to ask when she saw him sit down on the ground, grabbing onto her left foot. Her mouth fell open in surprise but before she could say anything, he pressed the towel up against her ankle, and a soft gasp escaped her lips as she felt the warm and slightly damp towel against her skin.
The pressure brought back the pain, but the warmth of the towel made it more bearable as he carefully slid it down her feet, wiping her ankle, foot, and toes using the towel.
"I can do it myself," she said softly, trying to reach for the towel, but he obviously did not let her take it from him. Instead, he dropped the towel and picked up a bottle of medicine. He poured it onto the palm of his hand and then rubbed it together before pressing it against her ankle.
Xu Anyi hissed in pain and tried to pull her leg back from the strong force of his hand, but he held it there, glancing up at her, "Don't move."
He slowly massaged his hands against her ankle, rubbing the medicine into her skin. He did this three times before finally closing the medicine bottle and standing up.
"It doesn't look too bad, probably a minor sprain. Rest today and don't walk on it, and it should probably get better in a few days," he said, putting the first aid kit back into the cabinet.
Xu Anyi pulled her left foot up onto the couch and looked at her slightly red ankle. She could still feel the pain, but it didn't matter much anymore as she moved her gaze from her ankle over to Si Mu. . . her husband.
Even if they were married, she could not believe or understand what he did. Their marriage was simply out of mutual benefit, yet he was willing to clean her feet for her and apply medicine for her so carefully for such a small injury.
In all her years of knowing Lu Yuzhe, even in the short period of time they were married, he had never treated her like this before. . . Not even close to this. Furthermore, he could not even compare to Si Mu.
Si Mu was like the King of Country Z, the tyrant of the business world. Everyone served him, and he did not need to care about anyone, yet just now, Xu Anyi was certain that he cared for her.
She watched as he stood up and knelt down in front of her again, "Get on. I'll take you upstairs."
This time, Xu Anyi did not try and push him away and obediently climbed onto his back right away, allowing him to carry her upstairs.
—
A few minutes later, Xu Anyi finished taking a shower and went downstairs, taking the elevator to the side of the stairs. She hopped into the dining room and saw Si Mu walk out of the kitchen, his hair slightly wet after taking a shower as well.
"Did you come down yourself?" He asked with a frown.
"You can't help me move everywhere," she responded, "And I'm fine. I think my foot feels better already!" She exclaimed, stretching her left leg out as she sat down.
"I'll have someone send over crutches," he said as he pulled out his phone.
"No! I'm okay, I don't want to carry crutches around. And I don't think my ankle is sprained, it probably just hurt a little because I didn't warm up properly and ran for too long. It will heal very quickly."
Si Mu raised an eyebrow, not sure if he could believe her, but in the end, he put his phone down. When he had applied medicine on her injury earlier, he had also realized that the ankle probably wasn't strained. Luckily, it was just a small injury.
The table was filled with food already, and the two of them began eating, "How did you make this so quickly?" Xu Anyi asked.
"A worker comes to clean the house and prepare breakfast every morning while I am running," he responded.
Xu Anyi looked around the house, which did not look like it could get any cleaner, and nodded as she smiled, saying, "No wonder why this food didn't taste as good!"
Si Mu looked over at her and she smiled at him brightly, taking another bite of the food.
He quickly looked down and began eating again, but the corner of his lips lifted up slightly as he let out a soft chuckle.
When they were almost done eating, Xu Anyi suddenly remembered something and she set her chopsticks down, clearing her throat:
"Si Mu, remember what we were talking about yesterday."
He looked up at her, raising an eyebrow.
"Did you. . . find a manager yet?"
She wanted to start working right away and earn money. After five years in a place like prison, she knew that nothing could be done without money, and everything could be done with money.
She thought about it last night and after she had more money, she wanted to start her own business empire called the Xu Corporation, the same as her father. Then, she would take back the old Xu Corporation that Lu Yuzhe had stolen from her after sending her to jail!
But all of that needed money.
She looked at Si Mu in anticipation, and watched as he slowly put down his chopsticks as well and then nodded his head.
Her eyes lit up, "Really?! Who?"
He crossed his hands together on the table.
"Me."
