I woke up with the sun right in my ace. Groaning I rolled over to an empty bed. Smiling at the warmth, memories of last night rushed forward. I honestly did not expect him to last so long for a virgin. After the couch we moved up into my bed. That was the best night's sleep I've had in a very long time. Even when I was with Zeke, it was never like this. I was better but I was always frustrated again. Maybe I should have taken his advice years ago, if I have known Owen was going to be like this.
Groaning, I stretched and reached for the alarm. When I finally registered what the time was, I think my heart dropped. Shit, I was so late. I pulled on my robe and rushed downstairs. Owen was in the kitchen reading the paper, with a hot cup of coffee.
"Why didn't you wake me? I'm going to be late for work"
"Relax S, it's Saturday and I've already checked your schedule. You don't have to be out until later this afternoon"
"Oh"
I sat next to him, just as he passed me a cup of coffee. I mumbled a thanks and read the back cover of the paper he was reading. Another sportsman was found doping again, no surprise there. The paper moved and my eyes connected with Owens. He looked much better but his gaze was full of questions, questions I knew I would have to answer.
"What?"
"It's nothing"
"Ask me now Owen, while I am still in a good mood"
"How did you meet Mr Matthews?"
I rolled my eyes and hopped off my seat. I took both of our cups to the sink and stared out the kitchen window. If this is all he was worried about then I have nothing to stress about. It's just his jealousy playing up.
"I met him when I was sixteen"
Silence filled the kitchen, like he expected me to tell him a life story. There is only one person who knows about my back story and she's dead.
"That's it? You're not going to tell me the story"
"Why would I do that? Just because we have slept together now Owen, does not mean you have the right to dig into my background. Don't forget that I am your boss long before I am your wife"
"How can I forget that. I'll get ready first. The meeting is at three"
I watched his reflection stare at me for a bit longer before returning back upstairs. Poor Zeke also didn't know what he was getting into when he first met me.
Eight Years Ago....
This is the first time we've ever swapped into each other's lives. My poor sister was going to be surprised when she opened the front door to my house. I don't know if she will be more surprised by my foster parents or my live-in boyfriend. Her parents had made me change into a hideous dress and take me to the party my sister's older sister, Rose was having. I couldn't say I was enjoying it, but as the night drew on, I think I hated it more than being at home. I don't know how my sister could cope with this all, all the freaking time. I had to act like a princess when all I wanted to do was have a drink and a smoke.
It was incredibly hard because I knew almost everyone here but I had to act like I was trying to make new friends. Who knew my sister would move from LA to Dallas. She said her father said there were more clientele in Texas and I think I remember laughing at her. I knew what her father was doing coming here. The drug cartel was bigger and badder in Texas. Well I should know, I run my one man business just fine. My sister said she has been on restriction ever since they moved here six months ago and has. Not made a single friend. I was glad, there was no one in Dallas that I wanted her to be friends with. I knew almost everyone and there were days that I wanted to escape.
I was bored now. I hadn't talked to anyone my age in a while now. All the creepy old men kept wanting to talk to me and what can I say, it is creepy. I looked round the room for Rose. I spotted her on the other side of the room, trying her hardest to flirt with someone in front of her. Twenty one now and trying to snag herself a rich husband. Is this how bratty rich kids live? Looking for even more money? I made my way to her and touched her shoulder slightly. She looked pretty pissed that I had interrupted her conversation.
"What do you want?"
"Is it alright if I go home now. It's a school night and I have an exam tomorrow"
"I thought dad would have taken you home already"
"No, he got called into the office. I think he must have taken mum with him as well"
"Typical"
"I'm on my way out, it won't bother me to take her home"
The voice startled me because it was a voice I had never heard of before. I turned to see the man Rose was desperately trying to flirt with. There was a god standing before me. He had naturally tanned skin that well with his green eyes. His hair was dark and perfectly sculpted. The way he smiled at me, made my spine shiver. Why even my own boyfriend has never made me feel this way. He was from out of town, I could tell because I had never seen this man before.
"Miss Martin, introduce us"
"Oh right. Mr. Matthews this is my little sister Lindsay"
He took my outstretched hand and gave it a light kiss. The contact was so small but the shivers that ran down my spine spoke loudly. I bet he could see the effect he was having on me, I think Rose could as well. I bet she was shaking with jealousy. I also bet he hadn't paid attention to what she had said to him the whole night.
"Nice to meet you Mr. Matthews"
"Please call me Zeke"
"Zeke"
His name rolled off my tongue and I could see that I was having the same effect on him as well. My mind was playing dirty as it began to imagine all the ways Zeke could play with my body.
"I'm sure I can find someone else to take her home Mr. Matthews"
"I don't mind one bit Miss. Martin. I was on my way out when you stopped me"
Rose was going to start complaining when the sound of my phone ringing broke her trance. She huffed off, leaving me with Zeke. I looked down and saw my sister.
"I'm sorry Zeke, I have to take this. Shall I meet you out the front?"
He nodded and headed out. I silenced my phone and found a small quiet place before answering the phone.
"Sister, how's it going?"
There was only heavy breathing on the other side. Shit, what was happening?
"Lindsay, are you alright? Answer me"
"Shit, sorry Carla, the reception in your house is terrible"
"Oh thank god, you're okay right?"
"Yeah. How was the party?"
"I annoyed your sister by picking up the man she was trying to flirt with"
"Oh god"
"How's it going over there? Has anyone noticed yet?"
"I don't think so. Why didn't you tell me you live with your boyfriend?"
I laughed at her tone of voice. There wasn't much I didn't tell her, but I needed something to be a surprise to her.
"How has he treated you?"
The phone went silent for a minute or so. I could feel what she was thinking.
"Lindsay, he hasn't hit you has he?"
"No nothing like that. He was a suspicious this morning when I came here, but I think he must be liking the change"
I heard his voice in the background and Lindsay moved away from the phone. I frowned, it sounded like he had just woken up.
"Sorry, I'm going to have to go soon. The house is small and too quiet for me to stay outside for too long without anyone noticing me"
"Aren't we meeting up tonight?"
"Can we meet up tomorrow?"
"Why? What are you keeping from me?"
"I'm sorry Carla, I didn't mean for it to happen"
The phone went dead but I knew what she meant. A few seconds the apology message came through but I knew she didn't mean it. I always had this thought outer shell growing up but right now, I just let the tears flow. I flirt with everyone, it's how I get my business done but I have never slept with anyone while I was together with my boyfriend. How did you not notice that Lindsay wasn't me? How didn't anyone notice that my sister wasn't me? Maybe she wasn't as innocent as it seems. My plan to integrate into her life while everyone thought I was dead is not going the way I planned it. I found a bathroom and freshened myself, before heading outside. Zeke was smoking behind a pillar. Frustrated I took it out of his mouth and finished it off.
"Shall we go?"
"Where to, Lindsay?"
I cringed at the use of my sister's name but I tried to keep the smile on my face.
"Anywhere"
