"Ouch!" Georgina glared back at Xander when he let her arm go aggressively. "What is wrong with you?"
"Ina, I—" Xander clenched his teeth, pacing back and forth in front of her while ruffling his hair in irritation. When he faced her once again, he huffed and opened his mouth, only to realize his voice was stuck in his throat.
Georgina snapped her tongue and bent over, releasing Nova from her grip. "You know what?" she paused, straightening her back to look him eye to eye. "Why do you always act so surprised, Xan? It's not like this is the first time."
"We talked about this." His eyes blazed, speaking through his gritted teeth. "You promised."
"No. You did, I didn't." She hissed, taking a step with her chin raised. Her eyes gleamed with ridicule, scoffing. "Don't act as if you never enjoyed it, Xan. You and I are the same. Isn't that the reason we're together? Because we understand each other."
Xander hissed, running his hands through his hair. "Ugh… why can't you understand?" his eyes glowed in gold, grinding his teeth as he took a step to intimidate her.
"Have you forgotten we're still under — ugh! I don't know what to do with you." He huffed once more, balling his hand into a tight fist and holding it up, uncertain where he would throw it.
Seeing him in distress, Georgina's brave front slowly disappeared, replaced with a slight frown. A shallow breath slipped past her lips, looking down, and catching the cat walking away from them.
"Look. I understand why you are angry." Georgina snapped her eyes back to him, ignoring the curious cat that was dragged inside their suite. "I didn't mean it. I really didn't. But… I was a little excited. It's the same for you, right?"
"The same for me?" Xander scoffed, knowing she was once again trying to find her way out of this. "Ina, I won't deny I was excited last night, but I stopped myself. The Elders warned us to lie low and if they hear about this? You and I will be in a deep, deep mess."
He took a step forward and spoke in a quiet voice. "Ever since the new chief arrived, those in the Fourth had been hunting everyone down and you know they stop at nothing. If they trace this back to us, the media is the least of our concerns."
"Gosh… why are you so scared of them?" Georgina snapped her tongue.
"I'm not, but if you mess this up, you will drag me with you. I swear I will end you before they do."
"Fine!" she rolled her eyes, getting more annoyed at his usual concerns. "You're no fun anymore."
"Blame yourself for that."
"I hate this." She folded her arms under her chest. "You don't have to worry, alright? I know what I'm doing and I wouldn't get caught. I mean, I already called someone to clean the mess. Do you think I want those jerks coming at me?"
"If you do not want them following you, then stop doing this," he stressed.
"But we've been lying low for months now."
"And if we get caught? Lying low is the least of your damn concerns. You'll lie six feet under."
"Ugh…!"
As the husband and wife argued, Nova was casually wandering the lobby. Their voices slowly volume down, but she heard bits and pieces, which she gave little thought about. After all, it was logical to assume the reason they were speaking so low was that they were afraid someone from the outside would overhear their conversation. They had an image to protect.
Nova looked back at them and rubbed her eyes.
"They're still arguing… hah, marriage." She shook her head, looking around until she noticed an open room. Looking at the ajar door, her gut feeling told her she should get in. She looked back once more to check on the couple and seeing they were still going on with their discussion, she trusted her gut feeling.
Nova slipped through the palm-length gap of the door from the jamb. And what welcomed her was a room. Her brows furrowed as her eyes landed on the bed. From her perspective, all she saw was an untidy bed with a blanket looking like a mound, which was not surprising since the room service could make the bed.
"There's nothing…" she trailed off as she perked up, noticing something purple.
Right then and there, Nova didn't know why she approached the bed, but she followed her instinct. To see better, she jumped on the edge and her eyes nearly popped out of their sockets upon seeing a man sleeping motionless on the bed.
"What in the world is going on?" she gasped at this scandalous discovery. "Did they have a threesome last night? Wow… they're living the life!"
Nova laughed, treating it as simple as Georgina and Xander possibly being swingers. However, just when she turned around, she stopped and looked back.
"I better see his face lest that woman tries to roast me alive if I came clean." Her lips stretched from ear to ear, assuming Luca might go easy on her if Nova offered more useful information.
Little did she know, the information she would get wasn't as harmless as she had ever fathomed. Because the second Nova walked over the man to get to the other side, her brain went black.
"What is…" she trailed off as all her furs raised, staring at the gaunt and pale face of the man. His eyes were clouding and his veins, which were apparent under his unnaturally pale skin, had turned blue. His mouth was open, and his face was dry of life, and yet, there was no blood on the sheet.
"Just what sort of world did I drag her into?" Nova took a careful step back, only to jump when the door flung open.
"Oh, there you are!" Nova instantly hissed as soon as Georgina came into the room. "Huh?"
Georgina cocked her head to the side and snapped her eyes at the person lying lifelessly on the bed. Her lips curled up as she faced Nova once again as if the dead man on the bed didn't scare her in the slightest.
"Aww… did he scare you?" she advanced in Nova's direction and picked up the cat. "It's alright. Don't be afraid. Someone will clean him later."
Seeing Georgina's lack of reaction as if there wasn't a dead person in this very room, all Nova could do was lean her body against this woman as the former sauntered off. As they did, Xander was leaning against the jamb with his arms folded under his chest. He gazed back at Nova without saying a word.
'Holy mother freaking cheesecake!' Nova mentally cursed, convinced that she had overlooked many things before bringing Luca into a world where she lived the same life, hoping she could get away with the excuse of 'bringing her back in time.' Instead of taking her soul to a different world.
