The Devil Beside Me

Luca's heart was thudding and her body was shaking, gripping the steering wheel too tight her hands turned white. She breathed a jagged breath, still feeling the slight impact from moments ago from bumping into multiple people. Even though she was certain they weren't human, it didn't matter. A normal person would instinctively get into a crash by avoiding a stray cat on the road.

The distant yell outside snapped her back from her trance. Luca flinched, raising her eyes to see that some of the men were approaching. Without thinking twice, Luca pushed the door open.

"Get in!" she shouted at Lizz, stepping on the pedal to repel the beast-like humans. Luca ground her teeth as she listened to her screeching tires and the thuds they made.
