"Tell me, Vayne. What the hell do you want?"

"Sir —"

"Drop the pretense, Vayne." Xander's expression turned even colder. "Stop pretending since whether you admit it or not, I will kill you."

Vayne stared at Xander with a worried expression before he sighed. But then, when he lowered his head, the corner of his lips curled up. Vayne hunched in, back trembling as he tried to hold back his laughter.

'I knew it.' Xander's eyes glinted with murderous intent, staring at his assistant's trembling back. 'Just how many more lies would I uncover tonight?'

It would be a lie to say Xander wasn't surprised in the slightest. Even though he was the one who confronted Vayne and made those assumptions on his own, there was a part of him that wished he was wrong. Obviously, that faint prayer wasn't heard.
