Chapter 60 Immortals

A hundred generations back, there once was a great empire. An empire so powerful that they held what is called today as southern quadrant. And not just a part of it, but all of it. The great forest of Vita, and the desert lands of Mortem.

"Where is this so called 'great empire' today?" You may ask.

That question is relatively easy to answer. Like every great power before and after, it crumbled to the ground.

"What caused such an empire to crumble?" You may ask.

Did it succumb to a deadly disease? Maybe a change in the environment? A deadly enemy? Fighting within the ranks? A faulty leader figure? A monster?

You may think it's one of these, or maybe two, or three of these options. But in reality, it's all of them.

A change in the environment, caused a disease beyond the known lands to prosper in the empire. Causing pain, suffering, and death.

As if waiting for this specific time of weakness, an enemy revealed themselves. The ancestors of what is now known as the Hyperion tribe, attacked the empire with their fiery spirits.

Amidst the razing brought upon by the attackers, a coup d'etat was brewing. It was being stirred by the most powerful of individuals in the empire against the king himself.

Sensing the threats nearing, the king sent his royal guards to deal with the problems. They have been sent to deal with the disease by eliminating everyone showing signs of symptoms.

Sent to clash with the burning prides of the Hyperion tribe. Sent to quell the treachery within the place they swore to protect. And the king's royal guard actually managed to deal with all of these problems by themselves.

They defeated the disease by eliminating it's roots, also known as damaging the environment so bad that the disease couldn't survive. And just to make sure, they cut all of the branches as well. By killing everyone who showed symptoms.

They pushed back the Hyperions by using the gifts they received from their parents and their ancestors. The gift of the moon, who watched over each and everyone of them through out the generations.

They stopped the rebellion by hunting down every individuals with the power to threaten the king, and stripped them of their wealth and influence by killing them.

But due to the death that eminated from the empire, the corpses of the people who fell to the disease, the ones who died in battle against the Hyperions, and the blood of those who died due to the failed rebelion.

All of these attracted a monster. A monster from beyond where no one came back alive, sets it's eyes on the weakened empire.

Before the empire could recover it's strenghts from the misfortunes that happened before hand, the monster's thunderous roar sent the citizens of the empire to their knees.

The monster, no, the cataclysm, single-handedly ravaged the empire, and did what the others before it couldn't. It destroyed the empire beyond salvation.

You may ask yourself this now. What happened to the living disaster?

Who lived to tell the tale of the empire?

Was it the remnants of the empire?

Was it the onlookers beyond the mountain's peaks?

Was it the Hyperions, who despite the threat the monster posed, refused to help the empire due to their personas?

Who? Who could with stand the monster's devastation? Quite easy really. It's the ones who stopped the previous disasters of course.

The ones who defeated a disease. The ones who dosed the Hyperions' unyeilding flames. The ones who stopped the most powerful people from taking over. They are the king's royal guards.

Not only did they survive the empire's falling. They took matters into their own hands after their king died due to a failed heart.

Using their blessings, they killed the monster that destroyed their home. The monster that took their meaning of life, the way they live, and the master's they served.

Upon the defeating the empire's last and final enemy, and scattering it's remains through out the destroyed lands. Eventually forming the barrier that seperates the Vita and Mortem.

Their numbers remained the same through out it all. Neither the disease, the rival tribe, the rebellion, nor the monster that nearly destroyed part of the world. None of these managed to lower their count from the number, Ten-thousand.

Due to this, they have been given the title of Immortals.

Why is this story being told to you now?

Well, that's because one of these Immortals is stood before the man who threw the world into chaos by just existing.

The Immortals' or what their collectively known as of today 'The Crescent tribe' stand-out feature. The white of their eye, or their sclera which is dyed black like the night sky.

The young Immortal's aqua-colored eyes stared down the golden eyes of the man known as 'The greediest man in the world' and the girl beside him.

"You're from the Crescent tribe, aren't you, little girl?" The man with the golden eyes, who goes by the name of Chrys Cheria, asked.

The girl Immortal looked at his face with a bright smile and said. "Oh, so you know my background. That makes things easier."

The Immortal then began approaching Chrys while wearing a confident and echanting smile.

"Stay back, Miya." Chrys calmly said to the girl beside him as he too, began to walk towards the Immortal.

The young girl known as Miya, could only watch as the two approached each other menacingly.

They stopped their approach just within arms reach from each other. As they stood silently on the stone bridge, the girl Immortal looked up to Chrys with a beautiful and confident smile while Chrys' face was covered in shadow as the sun was behind him.

In one swift motion, Chrys grabbed the top of the girl's head without the girl reacting, only giving him her best smile.

With another swift motion, Chrys lifted the girl in the air, and swung her down. Almost like he was throwing a ball onto the hard stone bridge.

Suddenly, almost as if the bridge was afraid of them, it parted. It made a sizeable hole in it's stone walkway, showing the crystal-clear water underneath.

Without a second of hesitation, Chrys shot the girl through the hole on the bridge and into the water underneath.

After the girl's unharmed body splashed into the water below, Chrys ran up to Miya, grabbed her on the head, and lifted her up to his shoulder like a piece of luggage.

Before Miya could process what just happened, Chrys began to run away from the scene while yelling with a straight face. "Run away, Miya!"

After only a couple of seconds, Chrys managed to run away a couple of meters with Miya in tow, he ran almost like his life depended on it.

The young Immortal surfaced her gorgeous face from the river, reached out to Chrys who is in the process of running away, and yelled. "Even if I have to cut off your feet. We will be together, my prince!!!"

Chrys' face visibly grimaced upon hearing her words. He then hurried up, and ran faster than before.

After a while of running, Chrys let Miya down and allowed her to run along side him.

After mumbling to herself for a good minute, Miya asked. "Why?"

Chrys didn't stop running as he replied. "Why I ran away and didn't do what I usually do?"

Miya nodded, looking desperate for an explanation.

"Because they're my worst enemy." Chrys bluntly replied.

"Huh?" Miya ran beside him with her mouth open, clearly surprised by his answer.

Chrys looked at her before continuing. "All of my techniques, all of my tricks, and all of things I can usually get away with... they have a hard counter for."

"That doesn't explain anything." Miya said, looking extremely confused.

Chrys then explained as they ran. "You should know by now that, the way I sense people is by the sense of touch utilizing the air around me."

"I could get a specific person's location by their general description. But them, unless they act suspiciously, they only seem like ordinary people since their only general feature is their blackened eyes."

"Since I can only know that they're an Immortal using my eyes. They can get real close to me if I'm surrounded by crowds of non-hostile people."

"And also, due to generations of selective breeding. It takes a few seconds for my power to flow through them." Chrys explained.

"But, that doesn't really-"

Before Miya could finish her sentence, Chrys interrupted her by saying. "You need to know every little detail. What you need to know is that they are, dangerous, powerful, and most importantly, not supposed to be here."

"We need to alert Morgan since if there's one, there will be a thousand more nearby." Chrys added.

As they ran, Miya mumbled to herself. "White of the eye is black. Very dangerous and have high numbers."

As they ran through town, Chrys surveyed the surroundings with his eyes.

After their run has ended, they now stood in front of a rundown part of town. It looks to be an abandoned market place.

As Miya is catching her breath, Chrys led her to a big building with a red-orange banner in front.

Miya entered the room after Chrys. Once she saw what was happening inside.

She looked to her right and saw, Amber trying to hold back Morgan, who has her bow fully drawn and aimed at the other side of the room while looking emotionless.

"Try me, toothless lioness hag!" A voice shouted from the left.

Miya looked to the left side of the room and saw a gorgeous tanned woman, wrapped in a brown full body coat with only her face and her long, wavy, orange-brown hair flowing like a river down her back.

Although her facial features were outstanding, what really caught Miya's attention is the woman's eyes.

Her orange pupils reminded her of an eagle's gaze as the area around the pupil which was supposed to be white, was dyed in black like the night sky.

"She is..." Miya thought to herself as the woman turned her attention towards her which sent shivers down her spine.

Miya stared at the woman's eagle-like eyes like she was a prey, completely frozen in place.

But in reality, the person the woman is looking at is the man beside Miya.

The orange-eyed woman then said to Chrys, who is stood next to Miya. "Here I am, wondering where her master was."

Chrys then replied. "Play nice, Celine."

Miya exchanged glances berween Chrys and the woman, who he called Celine.

Miya looked at Celine from top to bottom, but could only really see her face because the rest is covered with her coat.

"What are you looking at, brat?!" Celine asked Miya as she noticed her checking her out.

Miya quickly swung her head left and right before she gave Celine a forced smile.

Celine looked at Miya's forced smile and said. "Did the number of weirdos really increase that much since the last time I was there?"

"Hehe..." Miya could only laugh at what Celine just said.

Hearing Miya's laugh, Celine just turned her head away while grunting. "Hmph!"

Seeing how Celine was acting, Miya thought to herself. "She isn't the type of person I was expecting."
