CHAPTER 4

She cleaned her tears and took hold of the reins.

"Okay, little one, let's go look for your owner" she gave him a slow thud with her leg and stormed out.

She rode with no destination, scanning the faces of every being she came across with. There were barbarians everywhere.

Devastating everything in their path with no single sign of remorse.

Her heart felt like it was going to pop out of her chest. She rode to the center of the village; it was a roundabout with a waterhole in the middle. There was no sign of her parents anywhere but she did see a wolf.

He was blocking her way. Its hair was black as the night and his body was brawny full of thick flesh.

Connor snorted scared and Gwen patted his neck with no other act of consolation for she was terrified herself.

The wolf seemed more like a beast, it was ten times bigger than the ones she has ever seen, wait she looked at it. She has seen a bigger wolf. She remembered the white wolf she has saved yesterday.

Why were they here all of the sudden?

The wolf snarled and it took one second for it to come running towards her. Gwen urged Connor to the side and rode as fast as her fear permitted her, she looked back at the wolf following her, there was something different about him from her previous patient.

Gwenyvere knew she wouldn't make it when suddenly the wolf connected his claws in one of Connor's hind paws. She was shot off to the ground. Her head was spinning and she could tell she was bleeding on her forehead but yet she made it to stand up. She brought out the dagger that her uncle Floyd, has specially made for her, her was a warrior of the south county and he has shown her how to defend herself if it was needed.

The wolf surrounded Connor as if he was playing with his prey eyeing her with supremacy, her horse lay on the ground, neighing, struggling to stand up.

The big canine looked at her one more time and attacked Connor biting his head off in one bite.

She trembled with fear and held her weapon with two hands as tears started coming down her eyes.

She has fed and rode the black stallion ever since she was a lad.

The wolf now faced her and growled with his bloody mouth; it was just a matter of time before it lurches against her.

She had no other choice but to fight back or die trying.

A great howl was released, and the wolf ran towards her. Gwen tightened her grip on her dagger she knew she was overpowered but she will be a fool to try to flee from it by foot, without being able to outrun it by horse.

She simply waited, the wolf lunged towards her, she closed her eyes and raised the danger.

An incredible roar that almost made her deaf came out of nowhere, she flung her eyes open and realized that now in front of her were two wolves and of them was very familiar.

The white wolf.

She looked at it with her eyes cracked open, it growled furiously at the other wolf and the grey one growled back, it almost seemed like they were having a conversation. She was afraid they might be discussing who was to eat her first or what part of her body each one preferred.

The white wolf was bigger and stronger than the grey one and it moved with supremacy, it took a menacing attitude blocking her from the grey wolf.

Finally, her persecutor backed down and ran in the opposite direction.

How bad was her luck, passing from one wolf to another.

Serena was still holding her dagger when the wolf faced her and stared tilting its head to the side.

It growled at her when she stepped back and all she could think of was that she had saved it to have it attacking her.

The thought of her sister's worried face came to her mind, she kept asking if her pet was going to be okay all alone.

If it wasn't for her, she wouldn't have saved its life, and now it was standing there and her sister was nowhere to be found.

Anger took control of her and although she knew animals couldn't talk, she unleashed all her emotions.

"Where is Lacie!" She shouted at the wolf "We took care of you and this is how you repay us?"

A sharp pain pierced her chest, with the only thought of not being able to see her sister again.

"She has wondered if the wolf was going to be okay, alone in the forest," she said to her shelf and laughed bitterly, she had no more reasons to fight for.

She clumsily stepped back and ran, if she was going to die, she was going to do it in her house.

She knew the wolf could attack her from behind, so she passed through narrow spaces in between the cottages the small village was empty and everything was scattered on the ground.

Before she knew it, she found herself Infront of her house but she wasn't alone.

She was surrounded by various men that had gathered the entire village there, she couldn't understand what was happening but everyone looked at her with a diversity of emotions.

Some looked at her with pity while others looked furious and the rest was just too scared to even look at all.

" Gwenny" Lacie shouted and ran to hug her.

Gwenyvere couldn't believe her eyes, she simply hugged her back afraid she might vanish into the thin air.

"Father and mother were very worried for you, we were coming to look for you but they told us to stay here, I have to go and get berries so the wolf can eat," said Lacie confused.

"There's nothing to worry about Cara*, the wolf is fine," said a firm voice behind them, and both girls broke their embrace to look at the owner of such a towering voice.

Gwenyvere pushed her sister behind her and raised her chin defiantly.

"Who are you?" she demanded to the man that was two feet taller than her "what do you want?" she yelled but wasn't answered he instead acted like she didn't exist.

"Like I've said I came with the intentions to destroy this village, but I will leave if you give me a prize" he folded his arms "you have two options" he looked at nobody in particular "you give this woman to me and I leave appeased or I take her and I destroy everything".
