Hot Pursuit

"Run, run, now!" Lydia screamed at the boys and they all began to run away from the masked man that was chasing them.

They scampered through the alley and out into the open on the street, surrounded by people but the man was still chasing after them despite this. He didn't seem to care that they were in public because he still had his sword in his hands and was still looking to finish them off.

"He's not stopping. Keep running," Joe screamed and the kids ran across the road and into another alley.

They put some distance between them and their pursuer and managed to lose him behind a couple of old buildings in the busy city.

They ran through the alley and found a large dumpster by the wall of a building and took cover behind it.

"Did we lose him?" Kurt asked, out of breath.

"I, I think so," Lydia replied.

Joe was also breathing heavily and was also sweating quite a bit and so was Lydia. His palm was still glowing and it was burning him like never before.

"Man, this hurts," He said while holding his palm.

"Tell me about it," Lydia remarked and held her hand as well, "I always thought I was a normal person and then four years ago on my birthday, my birthmark started glowing and everything changed,"

"That's the same thing that happened to me," Joe said and they looked at each other, a bit confused about what was happening exactly.

"Um, Lydia, you said you were going to take us to where you lived? I think you should," Kurt said.

"Alright," Lydia said and took a step out of the cover of the dumpster but she immediately went back when she saw the masked man standing at the entrance of the alley.

"He found us," She whispered to the guys.

The man started walking in their direction and they could hear his footsteps getting closer to them. They were all nervous and the tension got higher the closer he got.

He hadn't seen them yet but he could tell that they were close by and he moved forward with his sword in his hand.

"What are we going to do? He's going to see us," Kurt said in a panic.

Lydia looked at Joe and then, at her palm. She thought to herself that although this man chasing them was scary and intimidating, they were more than capable of holding him off because of their abilities. She decided to stop running and fight back.

"Stand back," She whispered to the guys.

They moved away from the dumpster and Lydia put her hands on the huge bin and closed her eyes.

"What are you going to do?" Joe asked.

"This..." She replied.

Using her powers, she blasted the dumpster from where it stood with just the flick of her wrists and it flew through the air quickly, heading straight for the masked man but before it hit him, he slashed at it with his sword and split the dumpster into two halves.

"Okay, maybe I shouldn't have done that," Lydia said with regret, realizing she had just given away their position.

"Let's do what we were doing before. Run!" Kurt said and they took to their heels again.

The assassin chased after them again and he was quickly catching up to them. Lydia was behind the guys and when she looked over her shoulder, she saw that the masked assassin was right behind them so she used her powers to pull some trash cans and old furniture in the alleyway into his path to slow him down.

The assassin was quick and also very skilled. He easily manoeuvred around all she put in front of him and continued giving chase.

The kids ran as fast as they could but came to an abrupt stop when they saw a tall fence in front of them. They were at a dead end and there was nowhere left to run.

"Oh no, we're trapped!" Joe said.

"We gotta climb over it," Kurt suggested and tried to climb the fence but the holes around the links were too tiny to grip on to.

The assassin finally caught up to them and slowed down when he saw that they were trapped. He started to walk toward them with his sword and the intent to kill.

"Stay back, I'm warning you," Lydia threatened with her hand out but he didn't stop walking.

"I'll burn you to cinders, I swear," She said again but he still kept coming.

"Lydia, whatever you're going to do, I suggest you do it now," Joe urged.

"I'm trying," Lydia replied but her powers weren't working because she still didn't fully understand how to control them.

"He's getting too close, guys," Kurt screamed out.

Lydia realized that he wasn't going to stop and her anxiety enabled her to finally use her powers. She blasted him with a stream of fire that shot out of her hand but the assassin saw it coming and sidestepped the blast.

He leapt into the air and brought his sword down on Lydia but just before it hit her, Joe pushed her away and used his powers to freeze the assassin's sword and it shattered to pieces on impact with his hand.

Joe was shocked by what he had done but there wasn't time to wrap his head around it. He raised his hand again and with some sort of telekinetic force, he blasted the assassin away from them.

"Are you okay, Lydia?" Kurt asked and helped her up.

"I'm fine," Lydia answered as she got up, "How did you do that, with the ice?" She asked Joe.

"I just did it," He answered, unsure of how to explain.

The assassin also got back to his feet and stared at them.

"You picked the wrong kids to mess with, my man. And if you don't want us to mess you up, I suggest you walk away or me and my friends won't go easy on you," Kurt screamed to the assassin, trying to intimidate him to leave them alone.

The masked assassin put his hand out and the hilt of his broken sword flew back into his hand. The weapon started to glow brightly and the blade of the weapon rematerialized and the sword was completely restored.

The assassin raised his left hand and it ignited into flames. He rubbed his flaming hand around his sword and the weapon caught on fire and he swung the blade around, ready to attack again.

"Oh shit! He's got powers too? We're doomed," Kurt cried out.

Joe and Lydia were very afraid because the assassin also had magical powers and he seemed like he was more in control of his powers than they were of theirs.

He came at them again and the kids raised their hands and tried to use their powers to stop him but nothing was happening.

Before the assassin could get to them, a man ran out of nowhere and tackled him to the ground. The strange man took out an electric taser and shocked the assassin with it for a few seconds until he became unconscious.

"That's not going to keep him down for long," The stranger said as he got back on his feet.

He looked at Joe, Kurt and Lydia and gave them his hand.

"Come with me if you want to live..."
