Chapter 6

I’m scared.

Someone is after my life, someone powerful.

Stealthy enough to go unnoticed in the middle of millions of soldiers, even more covering the entire country, ensuring no escape was possible.

But the assassin succeeded twice, meaning he could kill anyone easily even when the guards were extra alert after the first assassination.

I locked myself in my room and constantly kept protective spells activated.

It was wasteful, hundreds of tier 4 and 5 spells and scrolls were used just like that.

A tier 4 protective scroll is generally used only for the most important occasions, tier 5 protective spells are the spells used to defend a city at all times, while the tier 5 scroll may be weaker, it was temporary. It could defend against meteor spells, which said a lot about its defensive ability.

Days passed by with nothing happening.

The guards grew anxious and didn’t dare to rest.

However things became worse, they were tired, sleepy, and stressed.

Most definitely not in a state to protect anyone.

That was when the assassin struck once more.

I don’t know what to do.

I heard someone ring the alarm, meaning the assassin appeared again.

12 guards made a ring around me, but I doubted it would help much.

There were cries of pain, men were dying, I could feel it. The life force of people leaving them.

That was when the assassin crashed through.

There was not a single visible wound.

Not a single cut on his clothes.

His eyes flashed in a blood like color, instantly killing the 12 people around me.

‘He has a magic eye?!’

Magic eyes aren’t well known, and are very rare.

But as rare as they are, they are equally powerful.

Turning people to stone, poisoning them, replicating any magic spell you see, seeing through the essence of all things and so on.

But I’ve never heard of a magic eye capable of instantly killing people.

Our eyes locked for a split second before my head rolled off my shoulders.

Where was this place? There is no sea that doesn’t even have ripples on it. It’s too calm.

I turned to look at the wall, on which a rather old man was sitting.

“Well, I know this won’t change anything but… good luck”

He jumped down, creating huge waves, ignoring them he simply waited.

Then the ‘wall’ tumbled down because of the waves.

Without a word the old man began turning the wheel.

Soon the world blurred and I was gone.

Some time after Kannon left the place the old man asked.

“Why?”

An ethereal voice sounded.

“You know why”

A short moment later a truly angelic woman appeared out of thin air.

“Can’t you let him die a true death?”

She shook her head.

“The world does not allow his death”

The old man sighed.

“But, why turn the Wheel of Time? Isn’t just sending the boy through the River of Time enough?”

“Do not overstep your bounds Falhorn, no, I should call you fragment of Lunovis”

Falhorn’s face darkened.

“Do not call me by that name”

“It is who you are, do not try to deny it. In fact it should be an honor to be a fragment of him”

The woman smiled, it was gentle, and one that could capture the heart of any man or woman.

“I’ll have to leave, the causality does not permit my existence in the lower worlds”

After giving a gracious bow she vanished the same way she appeared.

“Lower worlds huh…”

He knocked down the gigantic wheel, strangely though, there were no waves caused by the wheel falling. Not even the smallest ripple was seen on the water surface.

Falhorn jumped up, sitting down on the edge of the wheel and stared at the water.

What he saw wasn’t his reflection.

The water showed several places.

“A child will be born, a Saint, one who unites 2 continents…”

“May he who bears the title of King of Humanity be born safely and awaken his abilities.

Montaro was having an audience with the Emperor when news of the prophecies arrived.

The old man continued to watch, it was the only thing he could do here, and it was his responsibility.

Many may not notice due to the sheer size, but the ‘sea’ was in fact a river. It flowed, albeit so slowly it was barely noticeable.

“How many more gifts do you need before being able to remember all your lives…”

Falhorn watched Kannon grow, mature, sometimes he had a different personality, but in the end, he always died.

By now Falhorn stopped talking to Kannon, instead he already placed the wheel upright and turned it the moment Kannon arrived.

Falhorn turned the wheel, again and again, he did it so many times, but he never lost count.

Kannon died every time, most of the time he was 15 or 16, sometimes he was 6, other times, 12. Falhorn watched everything, every second of it, only to turn the wheel once again.

614

He had turned the wheel 614 times.

Falhorn jumped down from the wheel, standing in front of Kannon.

He did this so many times, around 400 turns ago, he began taking the time to examine Kannon once before turning the wheel.

But this time was different. Kannon got the gift Falhorn had been waiting for.

Seeing this was a special occasion he decided to explain, at least, what the causality allowed him.

“Hello, Kannon Angevin. You are most likely confused, unsure and nervous. There is no need for that. You have a special ability that allows you to ‘regress’. Each time you die, you restart from the very beginning. With each death, you will gain an additional ability, however under the law of causality and balance, you are only able to awaken those abilities when you reach 16. This is your… this is your first death. Your only goal is to stay alive until the day you turn 16, however you still have to stay wary at the beginning of your 16th birthday, when you haven’t awakened your skills. There are many who wish you stay alive, but there are an equally powerful force that wants nothing but your death”

Falhorn raised his hand, indicating Kannon to stay silent.

“I can not explain much more, ah right, each time you ‘die’, you return to this space for a moment, now if you’ll excuse me...”

Falhorn started to turn the wheel again, but this time, in an angle which Kannon couldn’t see, he smiled.

After Kannon faded away he sat on the water.

“It’s a pity he can’t remember the other lives he lived up until now, but at least, he’ll remember things from now on. I pray for thee, that thou nightmare ends quickly”
