Cold was like that, seeping through her seven layers of clothing, attacking seems and zipper tracks and spots of thin insulation. The exposed skin on Kristyn's face felt as if it had been touched with lit cigarettes.
Her breath steamed in the air after her loud sigh. She proceeded to dial Melody's number for the fourteenth time. Her crooked mind kept suspecting that Melody was probably getting payback for that time that she'd missed a whole bunch of her calls because her phone was on DND mode.
"Hi, Kristyn."
Kristyn was so happy that she'd finally picked up the phone but the voice that transmitted on the other end was so dull and sickly, it frightened her.
"Melody, are you alright?! You sound so frail!"
Kristyn didn't realize she had gotten up as she questioned, her words laced with concern. Guess she was shocked, Melody sounded like her life force had been incapacitated.
