The birds of the royal Mainesville estate took their place at Melody's windowsill like it was life's amphitheater and sang at the top of their lungs like their voices had been muted for months.
Melody squirmed at the piercing sound, without opening her eyes she aimed a cylindrical pillow at the trio shrieking a wake-up call. It should have hit the shrieking club-winged Manakin but the tactless throw hit the head of the black-billed magpie and it flew off with a hurt ego.
"Ego?"
Melody sat up at once and jerked up her head in the direction of the windowsill. The last of the winged Acapella group dashed away to safety from her murderous clutches.
"Murderous clutches?"
She blinked groggily and pulled away the clump of hair that was glued to the side of her face with the spittle.
"Can I...Hey!"
A new bird perched on the windowsill to confirm her suspicions.
"I don't think I can communicate with them so...what exactly is happening?"
