The sweet, ringing of the notification system made my blood boil and my head lightheaded. I kept track of the numbers of zombies, the traps killed. After all, before coming here I counted the pelts of the animals my people hunted and added them to the human victims we killed. This totaled close to eighty zombies, though it might not be accurate since those three people I have sent towards the Lemovii village might have killed one or two people... Fortunately, the numbers shouldn't be too different, right?

Alas, I miscalculated the severity of the situation. Gazing towards the horde of zombies in front of me, I said with a pale face and trembling voice, "What the f*ck?!"

"No way, those are definitely not eighty, those are hundreds and close to a thousand."

"Should I give up?" I asked out loud, feeling a sense of dread and hopelessness wash over me.

"I could simply just skip this wave," I mumbled to myself as I held my trembling hand with the other and looked out at the seemingly endless horde of zombies falling into the traps.

[If your connection to the physical world, meaning the nexus, is destroyed, you die!]

The blue panel with the bright white words showed up in front of me and just shattered my hopes and dreams. I screamed in frustration, "Nexus? What the actual f*ck is that? I've never even heard of this! You're definitely changing the rules!"

[This rule has always existed. You just never asked about it.]

I took a deep breath to calm my boiling anger as I gazed towards the incoming horde of zombies who kept falling for the traps.

"Think Luke! Think! There has to be something I can do!"

"I can't just go there and behead every zombie I see, that's suicide!!"

"Wait...."

"The Zombies can't see that far!"

"And when they do, they follow me with agitation and ferocity!! like that time with Bo"

"Can I trap them in a corner and shoot them with my crossbow?"

"Where is the nexus? " I asked out loud as the blue panel showed me the answer.

[Your safe house!]

"Alright, that's at the back," I thought to myself while turning around to look at my small, one-story house far in the distance. Then, suddenly, I understood how there could be so many zombies.

"Was the Lemovii settlement that was destroyed by the other tribe revived here?"

Unfortunately, it didn't matter as I sped up towards the entrance of the village while taking note that I need to build a gate. The entrance to the village was wide open, and there was no sign of a gate anywhere.

*Groooooawl!!!!!?*

"What the...." I jumped in fright as for the first time a zombie made a sound since I came here. Looking around, I saw a looming, two-meter-tall zombie speed marching and zipping past the traps at an alarming speed. I shivered and truthfully cowered in fear. I had never seen anything like it before.

"He ignored the traps and ran towards other zombies with a sense of urgency. Is it a zombie with wisdom?" I thought in silence while looking at the fearsome entity running and waving his arms around towards the other zombies. It was a shocking scene. Unfortunately, it wasn't that much of a shock since these zombies were humans in their past lives .

*Growwwwl*

He let out blood-curdling screams that echoed through the small settlement, and I didn't understand what he was doing. I inched closer and closer to him, and when I saw that he was kneeling on the ground and holding his head as he screamed some more, I darted towards him as stealthily as I could.

When I drew nearer, I saw his Level. Like any other game, a higher level usually means higher strength.

For the first time, the blue panel had a lot more information than usual; it took me a few seconds to read it in its entirety.

"10 EXp that I don't even know the use of!" I mused to myself as I looked around cautiously to see if the coast was clear. Nodding in delight upon seeing that it was safe, I sprang into action.

I lined up my crude-made crossbow to his head and shouted in delight, "A level 10 zombie! Jackpot!" The zombie turned his head, and I found it kind of familiar. Yet, I didn't care since this zombie was crying, which meant he was having a mental breakdown.

"That poor, unsuspecting thing," I thought to myself as my fierce grin slowly evolved into an expression of shock and bewilderment.

I was absolutely shocked and quite creeped out when I saw his contorted, ugly face deform in anger while blood tears were slowly sliding down his cheeks. I hurriedly said, before pulling the trigger, "A zombie crying? Here, have some tissues!"

*woosh*

The cold, iron bolt pierced his head with a sickening crunch, and as the system showed a series of notifications that made my head buzz, I quickly recovered the bolt, my hands now gray, from touching his blood.

I was hiding behind a house when I looked towards blue panel that was blocking my vision.
