Ch5- The War begins

MC will soon go by Nozomi, with Kurai only being at the start and in conversation with allies (starting Ch5).

-------

"We will now officially start the third shinobi world war! We were defeated in the last one and left weak. But we will win against Konoha this time! Because we are united! We are Iwagakure! And we carry the will of the stone!"

Thousands of shinobi started cheering after hearing the speech of the third Tsuchikage, Onoki, who had just casually decided the death of thousands of their people by deciding to partake in the war.

As such, hundreds of Iwa-nin's, led by the Jonin Commander, Izuku Kamizuru, started invading the Land of Grass, murdering anyone they came across.

Nothing was spared as men, women, and children were raped, beaten, and killed while they plundered the normal villages on the way.

***

Weeks prior, Kurai, who had been stationed in the Land of Grass before, had gotten the mission to kill a deserted shinobi, who was rumored to have joined an enemy nation for protection.

After tracing him, she appeared at her target's location, where she notices a 4-man team of the hidden leaf protecting her target.

As Kurai had been fighting for her whole life, she was quick to realize that her enemies were strong and her mission wouldn't be a simple one.

The strongest, a tall, yellow/ blonde-haired male, appeared to be the leader of the other, weaker ones.

The other three consisted of a serious-looking silver-haired young man with a mask, a black-haired one, with silly-looking goggles and a brown-haired kunoichi, who appeared to be a medic.

Expect the blonde one, all of them were nothing but mere children.

While the two boys were bickering, the girl and the adult, whom she identified as Minato Namikaze, the yellow flash of the leaf, were just standing there, observing their interactions.

Her target was currently sitting near them, gobbling down rations. He knew someone would be sent to kill him and had thus decided to sell information to Konoha in exchange for protection.

This was honestly not that much of a surprise, as Konoha was known to be the strongest nation after they had won the previous war.

Readying herself and making preparations for the assassination, Nozomi threw a few kunai at the protectors, while dashing towards the traitor, planning to finish him off and running as fast as possible. She wasn't sure if she could take on the yellow flash and she wasn't very eager to try.

However before she could decapitate the traitor, a sudden yellow flash appeared before her, blocking her attack. He truly lived up to his reputation of being the fastest shinobi alive.

Minato, as a talented sensor had previously noticed her existence and gotten ready to intercept her attack, while leaving his squad behind, confused.

With her years of fighting experience, Kurai was quick to attack again, leaving the less experienced Minato in a pitch.

He was conflicted, he was a speed-focused shinobi with rather weak defense, making it hard to fight while protecting Iwa's traitor, and continuing this would leave his team vulnerable.

However, this small window of him hesitating, made it possible to ram a kunai in her target's chest, leaving Minato shocked.

Unfortunately, she couldn't retreat yet, as neither was her kill confirmed nor was the corpse disposed of.

This resolution from both of them turned into a full-blown battle. One of them wanted to kill the traitor, while the other one defended them.

"Don't interfere Obito, we will just be a burden for sensei!"

Unfortunately for the kids, they were useless in a fight of that level. As such they could only help Rin by protecting her, who was healing the traitor's wound.

Minato quickly realized that he wasn't getting any advantage over his enemy. They were both speed base fighters, however, while he had a high attack and low defense, his enemy had a high defense but mediocre attack.

Luckily he still won with his speed by quite the margin, since he was able to teleport. This was however was negated, by the obvious more battle experience, his enemy had.

At some point, Kurai had enough as she decided to play dirty.

"[Fire Style: Great Vulcano Eruption]"

"[Flying Thunder God Technique]"

Minato, realizing not only his and his target's well-being was at stake, but also his students' life, decided to abandon the mission and save his students.

He had no interest in sacrificing his student in exchange for some semi-important information from the traitor.

With this, however, Kurai suddenly realized why her enemy was called the yellow flash of the leaf. While he had to protect another person before this, now he had no such restrictions and was able to freely attack her, leaving her on the defensive.

While she was having trouble defending herself from the attacks, which were coming from all around her, Minato was cursing himself for neglecting his training.

If he would have spent less time fooling around with his wife and done more training on Mount Myoboku, mastering the activation of the sage mode during a fight, or further improving his lightning thunder god, he would have already ended this fight. Unfortunately for him, Senjutsu was not his strong point, and activating it would only cost him time, while he couldn't even maintain it for long, making him neglect training it.

(I don't know if this is possible, but I see no reason for it not to be.)

As his mission was already a failure, Minato and his team quickly retreated, leaving Kurai behind.

Unbeknownst to her, at that time something unknown in her told her to fight against Minato again and win at all cost, which she would later figure out as it being her having a big combative nature that had selected Minato to be her target to defeat. A truly worthy enemy to battle, considering that he was stronger than her, even though she had way more experience than him.

This had been her last mission as an Anbu during the War, making her next mission to regroup with the main fighting force of Iwagakure as an ordinary Jonin.

As a normal Jonin, she had free reign of her clothing for the first time in her life.

She decided on a simple long-sleeved Fishnet shirt, which left her stomach open, with a comfortable Hoodie and grey flak jacket on top.

She wore the usual shinobi shorts and Iwa-cover and ninja sandals. (Iwa-nin gear for the bottom, while the top is similar to Kumo-nin clothing)

Coupled with a black face mask and her shrunken pouch, she looked like any normal shinobi.

(Low-quality picture in case you want to know how I imagined it, will be given in the next chapter.)

This would be the first time, she wore something other than her Anbu clothing outside of the village, where she had her set of separate casual clothing in case she was allowed to go out and observe the village for an assignment.

***

Weeks later she disguises herself as a Kunoichi from Konoha that had been wounded in an enemy attack. Although she had planned to infiltrate their forces, what she didn't expect, was that she would once again chance upon Konoha's yellow flash.

He helped her tend to her injuries, but for some reason, he wasn't fazed by her seductions. She didn't know if it was because he was too dense to notice or something else, but her seduction fragrance didn't seem to work either.

The yellow flash was once again not alone as he accompanied his team, consisting of the 3 brats from last time.

After some time, enemies started to appear, forcing all 5 of them to run away, as both she and Minato started thinking about how to deal with their enemies.

Although her orders were clear and Minato Namikaze was a prime target to be eliminated even at the cost of her own life, the experience she had developed in the two decades of fighting told her to wait for an opportunity as she wouldn't be able to kill him right now. He neither trusted her enough nor was the terrain in her favor.
