"Sean..." Elvis glared at the young man in completely black clothes, his hair was ruffled to one side giving him a rather dangerous appearance.
"You are right, Elvis. It's Sean." The man chuckled and walked to Elvis, "Who is she? Is my brother so tired of mistresses that he had to give out?"
Seeing that Sean was coming closer than usual, Elvis immediately adjusted the coat on Isadora so that she was barely naked in front of this childish man.
Sean narrowed his eyes at the young lady on Elvis's bed but was further surprised as he saw Elvis standing at his front stopping him from staring any longer. "Don't tell me you are being protective...Elvis?" Sean's eyes rose in suspicion, "How so many have things gone beyond my hearing?"
"Why are you here?" Elvis's voice was firm, cold, and a bit threatening. His ink-black eyes were a bit wider than usual as he glared at Sean.
"I have no right to be here in Venesia? My brother's..."
"Right, you can go." Elvis cut him short. He knew Sean for being troublesome, and for being lousy. He had never expected his arrival.
Everyone knew that Sean and his lordship were brothers and they did not get along but yet he found it so strange for being here. Had Sean not died long ago? Wasn't there a rumour that the night the ruler of Venesia died was the night Sean had eloped?
The previous ruler of Venesia was his master's father but since his master had fed his father to the dust, there had been commotion between the people in the family. No one wanted to go against the rules of the unknown brother of Sean.
The night the previous ruler of Venesia died, things went awry. The first son of the ruler did not only kill his father, but he also killed every man who supports his father and he slaughtered down half of the denizens of Venesia, trying to instill fear into them. The only member of his family he left alone was Sean. He did not just leave him alone, he tortured him and made him promise that he would head into the land of the beasts.
This first son of the previous ruler was so cruel that he sent his guards to ensure that Sean truly entered the beast's land so that he could satisfy the beasts' hunger.
There were reports that Sean was killed and torn into pieces by the beasts and there was also proof but still if the denizens of Venesia could go back in time, they would have killed the first son even before he grew to become a man. They would have killed him when he was still a foetus. That was what some of the old denizens tell their children whenever they wanted to tell them stories of the beast and their devilish ruler.
The children would severally whisper to themselves, "Our king is possessed by evil demons."
"Is there anything like good demons?"
"No...he is the Devil himself."
"Could he have made a deal with the devil?"
"Mother told us to quit talking about him. He is a spirit and he could be hearing you."
"Lies."
And then, things would begin to be blurry. Just in a second, their heads would be sliced off to the ground.
No one knew who did this, but they knew so well that ... their lives held no peace.
The women would always warn their children against discussing him with their peers because they had no idea when his spirit could overhear them.
Most of the denizens of Venesia had never seen his lordship but his absence was one thing that they would always be dreading. Because... Only a devil could kill and forever be unknown.
Sean brought one of his fingers up and held it to Elvis's face, "I have a say in wherever I might be. Quit your actions and let me take a look at the woman. Just a look." His eyes were deadly narrowed. No part of his face was naked. No part has ever been. The very day Sean clocked ten was the same day he requested a mask from his father. He had told his father, "In order not to be possessed by the demons, I need a mask. A mask to shield me from the demon's possession." The day he said that was the last day he saw his mother laugh.
His mother had replied, "Why do my son?"
"It is because Ezekiel is possessed by the demons."
If his parents had believed him that very day, they would have not died. They would have protected themselves from the devil they called their son.
He had continued, "and I always want to hide from him to not be possessed too."
If only his parents had believed his word, they would have been alive now, or maybe not because they would have grown too old but Sean knew that they wouldn't have died a cruel death and he wouldn't have been channeled as food to the beasts.
Elvis stared back at Sean. They looked like they were having a staring competition, "If you want to be safe and sound, do not trespass. This is your limit, do not go beyond it."
Sean laughed cheekily before his heart immediately filled up with a fit of deadly anger, "I see. You've sworn your soul to Ezekiel?"
"Do not mention master's name, you fool!"
Sean's face slightly tilted up, "Ezekiel?" He narrowed his eyes, at the same time his eyes were filled with mockery. "Is it not Ezekiel? Is mentioning his name lead him to his death? If so...would Ezekiel, would Ezekiel himself be glad to see you mating with his mistress? The princess of Maxwell?"
"What!" Elvis's mind shouted. He knew how angry his master would be if he saw how sensitive he was towards the woman he hated most but he wondered how Sean was aware of everything. How did he know about the princess?
"Elvis... do not see me as a child. I am beyond what your eyes can take. So now, would you let me see the princess?"
"No!" His voice was solid.
