Intricate

They were awakened by an earthquake. It felt like a level 7 and Zyra thought the building was going to collapse on her head. Nowhere felt safe as the foundations of  the building shaked. She felt the building sway from side to side.

She had no choice but to put her faith in the architects and carpenters who designed and built this building a long time ago. The fact that it was still standing and provided a safe haven from the harsh elements outside was a testament to its durability. 

Still the earthquake felt like it was going to last forever even though it probably took under ten minutes. Even Zyra found herself joining in on the screaming even though she knew better than to panic.

All around her she heard desperate voices crying out from the adrenaline and  rush of fear. She knew she wasn't the only one thinking about death and the frailty of life. When it stopped, despite the coolness of her sweat soaked shirt all she felt was instant relief.
