Joseph arrived at the event quite late and they had already started. He didn't want to be noticed by anyone so he took a desolate route to the university hall. It was a bit far from the hall but he was willing to risk it, he didn't want any college student to drool at him like they did the last and only time he was there. He hated when drool at him and he wasn't ready to be with any of them, to him they were all after his wealth and will betray him when they get the chance to so he wasn't ready to risk it all and moreover his mom abandonment created a huge scar on his heart that was incapable of healing despite the number of years that has passed. He was still thinking when he ran into someone and she came dashing on the ground, he was not expecting to see anyone and was suspicious of her reasons for being there. He stared at her for a while and noticed she was doing the same, it was like a staring competition and he did not understand why he wanted his eyes to remain glued to her. She was looking very beautiful and he could say she was the most beautiful woman he had ever met in his entire life. They stared at each other without anyone saying anything for a while until she broke the silence.
" Are you going to help me up or stand there and keep looking at me?," She said almost in a yell and he was captivated by her voice and facial expressions. He had never felt this way before and he wondered why he was still frozen on the spot as she spoke.
" How rude, mister? I'm sure your mom taught you how to treat a lady and you decided to not accept it," she added and his face lit up in burning anger as he heard the word " mother".
" I'm sure your mom taught you not to be in desolate and lonely places as a lady," He fired back at her but he stopped as he saw the fear in her eyes and for the first time in his life, he felt bad for making someone scared of him. He had always taken delight in the fear and avoidance that people had for him so he could have his own private space without interference but as he stared at her eyes which were obviously filled with fear, he felt terrible. He watched her continually blink in fear without saying a word back to him and he knew his words had hurt her. He regretted his words, seeing the pain in her eyes made him feel worse when compared to what she said to him.
" I was coming back from the bathroom, I couldn't find my way back," she replied timidly, looking away as her eyes were still very unsettled. She turned and saw him stretch forth his hand towards her.
" Get up!," He said as he stretched forth his hands. She accepted it and soon she was on her feet.
" Thanks for helping me anyway," she said as she dusted the unexisting dirt off her body.
" Just be careful next time and don't run into just anybody. You might not be lucky to meet a nice person next time," he responded and she became slightly annoyed. He noticed her demeanor and walked out of her.
" My name is Amberle by the way," she screamed at him as he walked towards the hall. " Geez, What a jerk," she added before walking towards the event hall. She looked forward and noticed he was out of sight, she used her eyes to look for him but found no trace of him so she proceeded to her seat.
" Where have you been Amberle? It's almost time for her speech," her mom scolds her as she sits down.
" It's a long story, mom but I'm here now," she replied as she took her seat.
" Well look at her, look at my baby," her mom said and she turned to see Anna climbing up the stairs to the podium as everyone clapped and she felt really proud of her.
" I would like to thank everyone for being present today. My heartfelt thanks goes to my mom and my older sister, Amberle for all their love and dedication towards me and I wouldn't be here today if not for their continuous advice and efforts. I would like to thank all the parents out there for not giving up on us, for pushing through to give us all the best form of education…..," Anna said as she started her speech. Her mom was already feeling very emotional and her tears were threatening to fall from her eyes. Amberle looked up to her sister with joy and pride.
" That's my beautiful baby girl," Her mom cried out as she saw how eloquent and excellently she delivered her speech.
" I would like to thank the school platform for the wonderful opportunity bestowed upon me and I urge us all to go into the world and be the productive human beings that our society needs to be great. Thank you," Anna rounded up and it was followed by an applause from the crowd.
"Beautiful, so beautiful," her mom said standing up with the rest of the crowd as they clapped. Anna looked at her mom and smiled nervously, she was starting to feel really nervous because of the reaction of the crowd. She wasn't expecting so much love and acceptance, she looked up to Amberle as an Anchor and her words made her feel better.
" You did good dear," Amberle whispered under her breath and she understood immediately, she smiled as she was directed down the stairs by the guest speaker.
The program went on and each graduating student was called to the podium one after the other as the school choir sang. Amberle and her mom couldn't help but smile in Glee as they watched her walk to the stage. Suddenly Amberle felt different, she felt she was being watched and she looked up to see him. She saw the handsome man that she had bumped into, he was the only one up and it seemed like he was given a VIP spot. Their eyes collided and they stared at each other again without stopping, it seemed as if their hearts were calling out to each other. They continued until Amberle was interrupted by her mom.
" Isn't she pretty?," Her mom said, tapping her on her shoulders, bringing her attention back to her sister.
" She is," she replied with a smile, she looked up again and the handsome stranger was nowhere to be found.
