FRUSTRATED

She stood in front of the office building waiting for a taxi. As she waited, she thought about the past couple of months. She looked back at the office and heaved a sigh filled with frustration and tiredness. She was tired of the way her life was turning out. She had no boyfriend and she was twenty-six years old; almost twenty-seven. Her rent was due and she was tired of giving her landlord excuses.

The man never ceased to knock on her door every night to remind her that her rent was overdue; as if she could ever forget. Now, out of the blues, she lost her job. The circumstances surrounding her losing her only source of livelihood baffled her. What did her boss mean by saying she slept with her husband? She shook her head to rid it of the thoughts of what just happened.

A bright yellow taxi pulled up in front of her and she sucked in a breath before bending down to look at the driver.

"Hey, pretty lady, where are you headed?"

"Church Street."

"Hop in" The cab man said opening the door. She got in, dropped the box containing her stuff before ruffling her hair. She stared at her palms for a few minutes as if trying to read the signs and know what is going on in her life. "You look worried" The cab man said looking at her through the rearview mirror.

"I am fine, thanks for your concern" She said waving him off. She was not one to share her ordeals with random strangers.

She gave him some money and thanked him heartily when she got to her apartment before stepping out of the car. She got to her door and her eyebrows furrowed slightly in confusion when she saw the door partly open. She pushed it completely open and peeped inside the house before easing herself into it.

"You are acting like a thief" Jasmine said startling her. The box fell from her hands and she sucked in a breath when she realized who it was.

"What the hell, Jas? You scared me."

"What are you doing back from work at this time? Did you get fired?" Jasmine asked when her eyes fell on the box. Kathlyn went down on her knees and began picking up her stuff and arranging them back in the box.

"You guessed correctly" She replied standing up. She shut the door close and made her way into the house.

"Why? What did you do?"

"What makes you think I did something?" Kathlyn asked incredulously.

"Well, you attract drama wherever you go. That is a known fact" Jasmine responded with a shrug. Kathlyn puffed out air and pouted her lips. She folded her arms across her chest and glared at Jasmine.

"That is insulting."

"The truth is bitter, dear friend" Jas said and began making her way to the kitchen. Kathlyn went after her and pushed herself up to sit on the counter.

"Maria fired me. She accused me of sleeping with her husband" She responded in a morose manner.

"Did you?" Jas asked nonchalantly.

"No. Goodness! Why would you think something like that?"

"I was just making sure. Since you did nothing wrong, you should put your big girl shoes on and begin looking for a new job. Maria has always being a bitch and she always wanted to fire you" Jasmine stated. Kathlyn expelled air from her mouth and bit her bottom lip.

"I guess."

"Yes. Now, go freshen up. You stink" Jas said chasing her out of the kitchen. Kathlyn glared at her before letting out a laugh and making her way out of the kitchen. "What are you up to?" Jasmine said making her way over to Kathlyn. She dropped her handbag close to her and walked over to the dispenser to get some water.

"Sending my CV to different organizations. I have sent to five organizations already but I have not gotten a response from any. It is disheartening" Kathlyn responded in a sad tone. She shut her laptop and placed her head on the headrest to calm her head down.

"Dreams is employing" Jas revealed. She walked closer to Kathlyn and settled close to her. "You should apply." Kathlyn ran a hand through her hair, tugging it.

"Goodness! Do you think I could ever get accepted?" She asked skeptically. "That is one of the biggest firms in the country."

"You think too much. Just give it a shot. What is the worst that could happen?" Jasmine asked taking a sip of her drink. She flipped her waist length chestnut hair to the side and straightened her back. Kathlyn ground her teeth in deep thought. She was conflicted. She needed a job but Dreams was one of the top firms in the country. She had seen their staff on TV commercials and she saw how put together they always were. Could she ever land a job like that? The ladies who worked for the company had an exquisite and confident look compared to her obtuse, disoriented self.

"I will forward my CV to them right away. I hope to get called for an interview" She said opening her laptop. Jasmine squeezed her hand lightly in reassurance.

"You will. So, what are your plans for your apartment?" Jasmine asked crossing her legs. Perturbed, Kathlyn looked at her in question.

"What do you mean by that?"

"You did not know? There is an eviction notice pasted on your door" Jasmine informed. Kathlyn's mouth hung open in shock. She pushed the table to the side and rose up from the seat before bolting towards the door. There was truly an eviction notice pasted on the door and according to it, she was given till the next week to leave the apartment.

Downcast, she shut the door and walked back to the couch. She placed her head in her hands and shook her head. A drop of tears fell from her eyes followed by a second then another till they were pouring in torrents. Jasmine scouted closer to her and placed a hand on her shoulder.
